P90X or Insanity?

Which one should I try? I have been at a plateau for a while and I'm looking at getting P90x or Insanity?

P90x I heard was the best! My friend went down from 260 to 190. He liked it. A lot of my girl friends do it as well. I plan on trying it sooner or later :)

I've been debating this same thing as well. One recommendation I read suggested that P90X is good preparation for Insanity, in that Insanity's cardio is more difficult so P90X gives you a good strength and endurance base that will get you through Insanity's challenges. I also read a review on Amazon from someone who had basically gone back and forth with the two programs, doing P90X first, then Insanity, then a combination rotation of both of them.

OTOH, I'm actually on the verge of getting Insanity without having done P90X yet because I feel like the main challenge I need is mostly cardio only. I think a lot has to do with what your personal goals are. P90X is more well-rounded strength, flexibility, and cardio, whereas Insanity is pretty much all cardio with a LITTLE strength thrown in, all of which is body-weight based and doesn't use dumbbells or anything.

P90x'r getting ready to try Insanity

My husband and I did a full P90X program earlier in the year - he lost 20 pounds, I lost 5.....but I was definitely more toned when I finished the program. My biggest complaint against P90X was that there was too muich weight training for me - my arms got huge and that wasn't really what I wanted. Our instructor threw in some Insanity classes to mix things up and they were hard - but great! I bought Insanity and will be starting it sometime before the end of the year.....just have to work myself up to it.

Just recently on a different message board, I asked how difficult Insanity was. Someone recommended that if I felt "ready" for Insanity but was on the fence, I should first get Cathe Friedrich's Core Circuit cardio workout because it was similar in intensity but cheaper, so it'd be a lesser investment I could use to try out my cardiovascular endurance. Well, after one session of Cathe's WO, allow me to warn anyone on the fence that this is CRAZY high intensity! It's also a great little workout, so I highly recommend giving hers a try before committing to the bigger expense of Insanity. I got my copy on Amazon for about twenty bucks. It's a little pricier than some single-title workouts, but certainly less expensive than the whole Insanity system.

It depends actually, Insanity is more cardio where as p90x is more about strength. But I must say that I love Insanity! My endurance has sky rocketed and I'm losing a lot of inches off my waist, plus you don't have to get extra equipment, it's just you and your body. I plan on doing p90x after I do 2 cycles of Insanity.

You all have peaked my curiosity!

I hadn't even considered Insanity. I recently purchased p90x at the begging of my 17 year old and he loves it. I have only sat on the couch and watched him so far, cuz I'm definitely not at that level yet, though after watching him, I plan to make that my goal to start that after the first of the year. Until then, I'm doing Turbo Jam and Power walking.

Thanks for the info above, everyone! I think I may look into the Insanity too (and the one workout the other poster mentioned above that was a cheaper similarity)

Keep up the great work, guys!

I've heard that a good sequence is Power 90, then P90x, then Insanity depending on your existing fitness level.
