It also makes me know that on special days or holidays I can enjoy that small piece of cake and not feel I am ruining a *diet*. I am not on a diet, I am living my life.

Weigh yourself everyday. I used to weigh myself once a week (or once a month), but if it was the wrong time of the month or wrong day of week I would see a gain in the scale and be completely demoralized and give up. Weighing every single day allowed me to see the fluctuations in the scale according to my body. And that is how I learned that the only time a real loss shows up for me, is around 2-4 days after my period, otherwise the scale is up and down for the rest of the month!
