Small difference between size 6 and 8?
Is there not much of a difference between size 6’s and 8’s? For the past couple months I have been comfortable in both 8’s and 10’s. Most of my 10’s now, however, are no longer wearable or flattering. So over the past month or so I had bought quite a few pair of 8’s figuring I’d be in them for at least the majority of the summer. I like to purchase one pair of goal pants so I went to Kohl’s last night and to my surprise I fit easily into a pair of 6’s. Thinking it was a fluke I went to Target, Wal-Mart and Old Navy. All fit or were very close to fitting. I have only lost 5 or 6 pounds from when I wore a pair of snug 8’s to now getting into 6’s. I can’t imagine only a few measly pounds dropped me down a size.
What do you all think?
And if there is only a small difference between 6's and 8's, is this something I can expect going forward when it comes to 4's vs. 6's? I loathe how much money I am spending on clothes! LOL My goal is 124 pounds but now I'm thinking I need to make it a sizing goal, not necessarily a weight goal.

It could be where you are losing too. Like, I went from a size 18 to 14 very quickly. I was in a 16 for a minute, but despite losing at about the same pace, I've been in a 14 for a couple months now. I didn't fly by the size like before. So, I don't know what to tell you.
I've also heard the last few pounds make the biggest difference in size and shape too, but I have no personal experience with that, so I can't help you there. I've been chubby for way too long!

I started this journey at a size 8. I didn't notice much of a difference b/t an 8 and a 6 but a big difference b/t an 8 and a 4. Now that I'm a size 2, I notice a tiny bit difference from the fours. For me, it's been noticeable like every two sizes. I didn't go out and replace everything at once, in dribs and drabs. I used a lot of belts to hold up my pants until they became extremely loose and then I went to buy smaller sizes. I'd go broke if I replaced everything at once and my DH would throw a small fit, lol.

I think also at a smaller weight, a smaller amount of pounds makes a bigger difference on your body. At a higher weight, losing the same amount of weight may have not made a significant impact on your sizes. Congratulations on your success!

It sounds like its up to body type. I'm currently 122 lbs, 5'2" and I still wear size 8 pants...I've lost 8 lbs and haven't dropped a pants size...but I've dropped a shirt size! Comparing your height/weight to mine, it doesn't sound like you carry your weight in your lower half, and it's probably the easiest place for you to lose!

I am noticing the same thing too. There really isn't much of a difference between a size 8 and a size 6. But there is a big difference between a 6 and a 4....Maybe, it has something to do with the waist. Because for me, that is where I most of my fat.

And there you have it! I will NEVER see a size 4! LOL I don't even remember being a 4. Maybe in middle school? I'd kill myself trying to stay in that size and that is not what this journey is about for me. The good news is it seems as if size 6 is my official goal size and whatever I purchase from here on out in 6's are here to stay!
I'm actually delighted about this. I see the goal weight maintenance light at the end of the tunnel!

In my experience, there isn't a huge difference between a 4 and a 6 either. There is one inch difference in most waist sizes between 4-6-8. The size chart for the Apt. 9 pants I wear a lot of from Kohl's has a waist chart of 4 = 25 1/2 in, 6 = 26 1/2 in, 8 = 27 1/2 in. Hips are 36/37/38 respectively. I hit goal and was comfortably in a size 6 at 127 pounds, lost 3 more pounds in the next three weeks and was in a 4, with 6s way too big. Did some weight training over the last two years, am still in a 4, though weigh more. To be totally honest, I'm on an uptick right now from overeating, so the 6s are okay, too. The size 8s I have fall right off me, though.
It is all about where you carry the weight, I think.

It's really hard to say because there is so much variability between brands. I definitely think there is a smaller difference between the sizes as you go lower. Don't get trapped into buying clothing that is too large for you, especially with the rampant vanity sizing that goes on today. If something doesn't look quite right you may need a smaller size.

This must be the famous Paper Towel Theory in practice!
I'm trying to lose 35lb and I am also trying to avoid buying any new clothes until I get there, whether the exception of belts and perhaps the odd rummage in a charity shop. I am far too broke to buy clothes that will only fit for a few months.
