Default Easter Story Cookies

Easter Story Cookies
From Lake Hills Baptist church, recipe book, by Kim Edwards Hope I got all this down right.Everyone, Have a Happy Easter ! Love Bootsie!

To be made the evening before Easter.

You will need:
1 cup whole pecans or walnuts
1 tsp. Vinegar
3 egg whites
pinch of salt
1 cup sugar
zipper baggie
Wooden spoon
Tape
Bible

Preheat oven to 300 degrees, this is important; don’t wait till your have done with the recipe!

Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, he was beaten by the Roman Soldiers. Read to them John 19: 1-3

Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 teaspoon vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, He was given vinegar to drink. Read to them John 19 : 28-30

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain to them that Jesus gave his life to give us life. Read to them John 10: 10-11

Sprinkle a little salt into each child’s hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain to them that this represent the salty tears shed by Jesus followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read to them Luke 23:27

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup of sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because he loves us. He wants us to know and belong to him. Read Psalms 34: 8

Fold in the broken nuts. Drop by teaspoon onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus body was laid. Read to them Matthew 27: 57-60

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door, and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain to them that Jesus’ tomb was sealed. Read to them Matthew 27: 65-66

Go to bed! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven over night. Jesus’ followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read to them,John 16:20 and 22

On Easter Morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter, Jesus’ followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty! Read Matthew 28: 19

I made these, they arent very good.

You can do something similar with marshmallows and croissants. We are doing resurrection eggs too, but they are toys/lessons not edible.

Aw.......I hate to hear they did not taste good, never have tried the recipe but will try it. The point though, and this is just my point of view, is having precious moments with our children and grandchildren telling them the story and how much Jesus Christ loves us all. Would love the recipe for the marshmallows and croissants.

Here is another one and it does not require cooking for the future. Given to me by a friend.

Take some jelly beans and
sort them by colors and put them in plastic baggies and attach this message

Jelly Bean Prayer

Red is for blood He gave.

Green is for the grass He made.

Yellow is for the sun so bright.

Orange is for the edge of night.

Black is for the sins we made.

White is for the grace He gave.

Purple is for His hour of sorrow.

Pink is for our new tomorrow.

An egg full of jelly beans, colorful and sweet, is a prayer, a promise,

A loved ones treat!
