Default How many calories does muscle burn?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I think I should begin some weight lifiting to tone up, I have lost 60 pounds since May doing 30 minutes of cardio daily and have been on the eDiets express meal delivery program. I keep reading that muscle increases your basal metabolism but by how miuch? For instance how much does 1 pound of muscle increase your resting metabolism by?

I found this article that a pound of muscle burns 6 calories per day, although I've also seen higher numbers.

One thing to remember though is when you are doing strength training, you are burning calories. And the more muscle that you can use, the more calories that you can burn. I couldn't imagine not doing strength training

The most reputable number I've heard is that we burn 50 calories per kilogram of lean body mass per day.

Default Nelie, that's a good article

I don't think the research has nailed it down completely, but it doesn't matter! If you're bigger and active, you already have muscle. If you can keep it while you lose weight, that's a good thing. My sister, who has genetically my twin body type, was a size 10 at 144. I am size 2 or 4 at 140. Whatever the research says today, muscle is your friend
