Hey chicks.. I'm thinking about signing up for a 10k race that is on May 6, 2007. It's the easiest 10k out there--it's all downhill and it's pretty much just straight down one street for most of the race. But still, it's 10k, which seems unimaginably far to me right now.
At the moment, I'm basically a couch potato. I haven't been going to the gym regularly in about 5 months. I really need to kick my exercise routine into high gear if I want to keep losing weight. I thought it might be interesting to set a goal like registering for a race, and maybe get some friends to join me. But is this at all realistic? Could I be a decent enough runner by that time to not make a fool of myself? Should I maybe find a 5k to sign up for instead? Thanks for any advice.
I don't that that a 10k is too much with a race date of May 07. I would suggest that you look for a 5K in February or March just to gage where you are.
Go for it! I've been running a while now, but I built up from signing up for a 5k in about March or so one year, when I was completely unable to run, and did my first 10k that September. The timescale is totally do-able. I'd try to find a 5k to do in between now and May, and good luck!
