Maureen.... What ever speed is good for you as a beginner is the speed for you, only YOU can tell... If your heart rate was at 161 and your were feeling ok, not completely breathless, nauseus or dizzy and could still keep up a decent conversation, I think you were ok... The monitors on the machines are inaccurate, I wouldn't rely on them all that much...
Today I did some HIIT on the and a very quick chest workout...
50 min elliptical (stepped my resistance up today...yay! It didn't kill me!)
40 min UB strength training, plus my ab exercises.
Now lets just hope that I continue my mindset of "ab exercises after strength training are not optional"...I have been skipping them lately. Bad Amanda. But I DID do them today (all of them, even the awful trainer-prescribed bicycle crunches), so...Baby Steps!
I was determined to increase from my 10 minutes on elliptical. However, I couldn't do it all at once. Before I left the gym, I got on for the last 3 minutes
Last night was my first time at the gym, and needless to say - I LOVED IT!!
I spent like 30 mins doing cardio. I included treadmill and bicycle type thing. I was tooooo short for the ellipticle!!
But then we spent the next 45 mins - 1 hour using all different kinds of machines. I ended up doing a full body work out. Then I ended it again with another 15 mins on the treadmill!
I felt great! About to leave work ( at 3 am!! ) and head back to the gym!!
