Default Energy Boost?

Hello all! First I just want to thank you all for such a wonderful forum! I can't believe I haven't happened upon it until now!

My question: Do any of y'all have any tips on boosting energy while at the gym? Some days I just feel so loogy (sp?) even in the middle of a spinning class. I'm eating very healthy and getting plenty of sleep, but some days I almost can't make it through a workout no matter how easy I take it.

So does anyone have a routine/food/drink/supplement that they find gives them a boost of energy? TIA!

Hi Harry and welcome! We're glad you're here.

Let me toss out a few ideas and you can let me know if any of them might make sense ...

Are you a coffee drinker? I'm a first-thing-in-the-morning exerciser and my coffee is what gets me up and keeps me going!

Time of day makes a difference - we all have natural body rhythms and times when we feel more energetic (and times we just want to take a nap!) If your schedule permits, take advantage of your peak energy time of the day for your workout.

Are you eating good carbs? Are you eating before you exercise? What you eat (even if it's healthy) and when you eat can affect performance.

Are you taking a rest day during the week and not overtraining?

Just some thoughts ... I'm sure you'll get lots of other ideas.

Bananas. After work just before I get on public transport, I have a banana, and then get to the gym (after an hour on public transport) and it keeps me going!

If I have calorie room, I have an energy drink that I buy at the gym, it's a flavoured water with added carbs, and its great. It's 50 calories though, and I really don't like drinking my calories, apart from the drink about to be mentioned in the next paragraph

Keeping well hydrated helps, not just gulping water at the gym. Sometimes when I am naughty I have a skinny latte about an hour before hitting the gym! I tried going caffeine free when I first started the healthy living thing, and lasted about oh a day

Thanks so much for the tip on the banana! I guess it was what I was eating. I was fading at the end but I was able to go for 2 hours!

Way to go, easy energy!

I'm glad it worked for you. Pre exercise I never ate bananas, I didn't actually like them, but I do now! Weird!
