Default Maintaining an Exercise Schedule while Traveling

Anyone have any ideas for me? I spend about 1 week a month away on business. The two issues I'm running into: First, not having time to do my normal routine while traveling (I'm doing 14-16 hour workdays most of the time when I'm away from home- barely enough time to eat, sleep, and throw on clothes). Second is a lack of equipment (I'd request a hotel with a gym, but normally stay with friends who don't have anything at home).

I find it really hard to get back in the groove once I get home if I take a whole week off from my routine, so I try to throw in activity while I can while away - I have a resistance band that folds up very small, so I can work on abs and arms while gone - it doesn't take a ton of time or a lot of space. I try walking (my friends live in a hilly area) but can only sneak in 15-20 minutes because of time constraints.

Anyone else spend a lot of time traveling and deal with this? I'd love some advice, as I'm really struggling with keeping going.

On my last business trip, I was gone for 3 weeks. I took my stability ball (deflated, it doesn't take up much space at all!) and resistance bands with me and walked as often as possible. Didn't put me to far out of the groove for jumping back in when I got home!

Just a thought. WHen I travel, I take my laptop with me. It has a DVD drive, so I also take the 3 mile Walk Away the Pounds Express DVD and a resistance band. WATP doesn't require a lot of floor space, so it's usually do-able. If I'm in a good area to walk outside, I try to get up earlier so I can take a walk before the day's work begins. Even the 15-20 minutes that you can squeeze out helps.

I travel for work once every 5-6 weeks for about a week and I agree it is tough. Usually on those weeks, I eat lighter (per diem rate is crappy so its not too hard) and try to take the stairs when I can and long way around the city (NYC) instead of the taxi. Lucky for me my gym is in most major cities I have to travel too so I use a guest pass for my gym, but if I am in a town where my gym isn't located I give the local gym a call in advance and ask for a 1 week trial membership. The other problem I run into is that most hotels, in big cities charge you for the gym, which I hate!

I really like Tammy's idea, I never thought to bring my DVD's along, kudos to you for being so smart!

I am planning to take my two 3-pound Danskin workout balls with me on my cruise, even though I am sure the ship will have a fitness center. They can easily be tucked into luggage and if you look online you can find a pretty wide variety of exercises you can do with them.

When/if you do stay in hotels, look for the stairways instead of the elevators... especially in larger places with several floors. I realize this doesn't help you since you stay with friends but posted it anyway for the benefit of others who may be reading.
