The takeaway? Start slowly, keep going, have fun. Love yourself and make it a habit; a little bit is more than nothing.

I had been avoiding working out b/c I used to be a real gym bunny. But that was 10 years ago and since then I have put on 50 pounds. Just this week after losing some weight through strict dieting I got back on my spin bike. I listened to music my daughter likes,(she is 12) and I peddled for 35 minutes. Then I did it again the next day while watching Judge Judy. I did not break a sweat and I made sure not to get out of breath. I did not exercise to accomplish anything other than acclimating myself to physical exercise.
I also did about 10 minutes of dance steps to country music, just to get my body moving again. When my weight goes down to 145 I will kick up the pace and try to exercise for real.

i really like this article. it starts with, IMHO, the most important thing, "Approach everything you do from a place of self-compassion."

when i started 10 body weight squats left me in some serious pain from DOMS for almost a week. that was in december of 2011. i am still not a Self cover model, but i am SO PROUD of myself and what i have accomplished.

I too like the self compassion advice

The bravest thing I have ever done is take a yoga class. I was nearly 400 pounds when I started it. It was hard, hard HARD work. I felt foolish and like I was going to die and so forth. But I was shocked at what my body was actually capable of.

I think starting to move again is HUGELY important for many reasons.

Absolutely - I know that we all have our own stories, but I thought that this was a message that works for anyone.

Ladies, I admire your courage and pride; you rock! Keep on loving yourselves. :)

I was actually deterred from exercising because I believed the 5 minutes I put forth the effort would accomplish nothing...but when I did a mini routine for the first time in years and I got so sore---my opinion changed.
