i'm just curious as to how many calories i burn by riding my bike 1 mile.
i looked it up online, but it keeps asking for TIME not DISTANCE and idk how much time it took for me to go 1 mile
i'm getting one of those heart rate monitor/calories burned counting watch, but it won't be here until next week,
and until then i'm curious as to how many calories i burn per mile.

Hi Alyssa!
I think it differs slightly from person to person (depending on weight, etc) but for me, personally, I find it's usually about 100 calories per mile. Also, since getting my HRM and wearing my WW pedometer, I've figured out that, coincidentally, 100 calories equals *about* 1 Activity point.
LOL, yup they are I burn 100 cal walking a mile that takes me 15 minutes. BUT I pedal a mile in 5 minutes....that is how I based my answer. -- I think when I was biking last summer, I burned roughly 400-500 per hour biking.

it takes me just about 6 minutes when i'm pedalling normally, but yesterday i had to get to the post office by 1:00 and i left at 12:43, so i went HARD and got there in 5 minutes, and the post office is literally 1 mile from my home (my grandmother, out of curiosity, looked at how far she went from home to the post office and it was 1 mile). so yesterday, i went out for a 1-mile bike ride for exercise at 10:00 am. then the 2 miles for the post office and back at 12:43, then i went to see my friend and that was 2 miles there and 2 miles back, so i went 7 miles. i'm taking off today because i got really sunburned yesterday... i'm burnt all over my shoulders, and my arms actually have heat rash. i need to get sunblock if i'm gonna be riding my bike all the time!

Totally off topic, but I'm actually kind of envious of your sunburn. It's snowing here right now.
I have been curious about how many calories are burned in a mile of riding and I saw online last night that it was 40/mile. I'm assuming that it differs for each person, but that's what I saw on 2-3 different sites.
I'm hoping its closer to the 100 other people are saying! I would have to ride 88 miles to lose one pound a week if it were 40/mile!!

I just got this off of Livestrong.com. Makes total sense with the ranges and weights.
Vigorous Cycling
When you bicycle 14 to 15.9 mph, you burn about 58 calories per mile if you weigh 190 pounds, about 47 calories per mile if you’re 155 pounds and about 39 calories per mile if you’re 130 pounds.
Moderate Cycling
When you bicycle 12 to 13.9 mph, you burn about 53 calories per mile if you weigh 190 pounds, about 43 calories per mile if you’re 155 pounds and about 36 calories per mile if you’re 130 pounds.
Light Cycling
Bicycling 10 to 11.9 mph is regarded as a “light effort” by the Wisconsin Department of Health. When you bicycle 10 to 11.9 mph, you burn about 47 calories per mile if you weigh 190 pounds, about 38 calories per mile if you’re 155 pounds and about 32 calories per mile if you’re 130 pounds.

What heart rate monitor did you get? I saw in another thread you were looking. I have thought about getting one, but I don't want to spend a ton of money on one.
