Default Building up to the Tough Mudder

I just entered my first mud 5k obstacle challenge!! Two months to train but I can't wait!!!

I'm signed up for RunaMuck NY in June.

http://runamuckfestival.com/locations/new-york/

Eventually, with a LOT of hard work I want to build up to the tough muddler. I love fun ways to figure out exercise!

Has anyone done one of these ever or thinking about doing one?? Please share!

I would LOVE to do Tough Mudder. I am actually considering doing it next year as there is no way I would be ready this year. There are some training videos on youtube for it.

I considered it. I verbally committed but then found out that the date doesn't work.

Beware, I heard the Tough mudder lets the true athletic competitors go first because the others jam up the obstacles and there are others who wait very very long for their turn to scale walls and go through various things.

I don't know this first hand. It was pointed out to me when I told a friend that I was planning on doing it. It sounded totally sucky.

Candela just a thought b/c I felt that way too but they say if you have run 5 miles, you can do the course (plus prep for all the obstacles), but you really don't have to be a half-marathoner to do it...at least I hope not Lol.

Right now working my way up to a 10K and weightlifting (I was a competitive weight lifter in high school). As soon as I move apartments I'm doing a month-long boot camp class. I need to check out the workout they provide on the website. You?

I signed up for a Ruckus Run which is 4 miles with an obstacle course. I looked at the Tough Mudder site and have no desire to be go through tight underwater tunnels or get electrocuted at the finish line.

You can skip any obstacle you're uncomfortable with. But if you look at the pictures, they're not as freaky as they sound.

I was terrified I'd be clausterphobic in the underwater tunnels, but it looked like something I could do. I guess I'll not find out until next year!

I agree, I'm afraid for scaling the 12 ft walls, that's my fear - but they have SO many ppl there to help you through - the aim of the challenge is not to leave anyone behind so ppl finish it together.

Lovely - I'm also working my way up to a 10k, currently running about 4-5 miles now, working up a mile/month is my goal -when I get to 8 miles, prob around July/August I'm going to start stopping every mile to do a challenge [burpees, pushups etc] to try to simulate the challenge. I'm also doing heavy bag kickboxing during the week [it's 1/2 on the bag, 1/2 squats, burpees, abs, planks, push-ups, military drills] so that's helping.

Also, I'm told 24 hour fitness had tough mudder classes every Sat. for $15 so I might drop in to a few of those as well. That's my current plan. I'm going to re-evaluate it after the race in June to see how I am by then on the obstacles.

Seagirl - I ck'd out Ruckus Run, it's sounds both tough & fun - good luck!! I'm starting w/ similar challenges, to build up to tough mudder. As other posters said, you don't HAVE to do every challenge if you really don't want to.
