Yoga NSV

  • Throughout my weight loss journey, I've become a pretty dedicated yogi. I think I limit myself in the poses I attempt, though, because there are lots of things I tell myself a heavy person "can't do" (when, of course, it's really just about strength and balance).

Today, my teacher encouraged me to try crow pose, one of the poses I've been most scared of. I had tried before, and I had just never been able to do it--too much fat, too little arm strength, and most importantly, too much fear. Still, she told me to try again, just for the **** of it...

...AND I DID IT. I got into crow and held it for a bit! This is a big victory for me for 2 reasons:

    1) It shows me that I AM getting stronger and more agile and
    2) I think it finally gave me the kick I needed to realize that I can't let my weight or fear of failure hold me back from getting what I want anymore.

    Yay!
  • yeaaah! congrats!
  • oooh, awesome, congratulations! I do hot yoga and I know the feeling when you finally "get" a pose - whether it be truly understanding it or going further in it - and how absolutely AMAZING it feels.

Crow is tough - that's is awesome!!!

  • Congrats! Crow is not easy!

I love finding other yogis on here! I'm surprised there aren't more of us. What kind of yoga do you usually practice?
  • Wow thats awesome! I adore yoga! Eben though I am heavy some of the poses can be so empowering for me! Thats a great feeling! Congratulations to you!
  • Aww, thanks ladies.

I love finding other yogis on here too! It may not be the thing that burns the most calories, but it's definitely made the biggest difference in my weight loss journey--doing yoga helps me tone as I lose, and keeps me patient and tranquil throughout the days. I mostly practice Vinyasa, although Anusara is pretty wonderful too. What about you?
  • I had to google an image of the crow pose. That looks wicked hard! Good job!
