I am usually an elliptical / treadmill kinda girl. But my work has a "free" gym. It has a stationary bike that i've been using for a while. I really like it.. but I'm afraid I'm not working myself hard enough. I feel like I can go farther on a bike time wise than I can with an elliptical or treadmill. am I crazy?? does anyone have any tips for me??
I love riding a stationary bike. I usually ride 30 minutes, but never less than 20. I use hand weights to work my arms at the same time, plus I can read a book while I pedal by holding it out with one arm. Hardback books actually give my arms a workout! I am usually drenched in sweat by the time I get off the bike!
If it feels like you aren't working as hard as when you're on the elliptical or treadmill, try mixing up the bike course. If there are set courses, select one that has intervals or hills. I've noticed when I keep my stationary bike at one level it tends to feel "easy" pretty quickly, even if the level starts out feeling like a good workout, but when I work in some hills I really sweat.
