Is it harmful to run on sidewalks?
I've heard that running on sidewalks is the worst thing to do because blacktop is a little softer and wouldn't be so hard on your joints. But, the subdivision I live in is extremely busy: cars parked on both sides of the road, people who don't drive 25 mph, etc. I don't mind running on the road when it's earlier in the morning or later at night, but tonight I might have to run when it is "rush hour" of people coming into the subdivision from work and I flinch sometimes wondering if people are going to see me.
So, is it that bad to run on sidewalks or will it cause injuries? Are there any runners who run on sidewalks and find that it has not had an adverse affect on their bodies? Oh, and I only run 2 miles as of right now, so I'm not doing a ton of mileage.
