Runners - WWYD?

I've been running for about 6-7 months now. I usually run 12-13 km per week and can routinely run 5K without stopping or falling over (lol). I have a long term goal of completing a half-marathon.

The other night we were talking with friends who are headed to Disney and DH and I both realized that we'd like to visit one of the parks. Then DH discovered a travel package from our local running store yesterday to travel and run the Disney World Half Marathon in January 2012. He asked if I would consider going. It would have to be booked relatively soon.

The prospect of doing this in less than a year seems completely overwhelming and un-doable to me, though I know I may be selling myself a bit short. I am willing to stick to a training plan for 12 weeks or whatever it would take as I've done so in the past. By the end of this summer I will have completed two 5K's and one 10K race.

So....what would you do in my shoes? Would you book the trip and sign up for the race in January?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Do it! If you can run 10km, you can train for a half in four months easy chips! Above 10km it is all mental I think :) Plus, having a race will motivate you to train. I find it hard to motivate myself to go running on cold/windy/too hot days without something to train for or a goal but once the fear is there, there can be no slacking!

Go for it! You'll be fine!

Do it. You have plenty of time. find a novice half marathon plan and back track from your race date.

Ummm....YEAH!!!!:yes:You sound like you are doing really well and are very dedicated to your current workout. If you've come this far in 6-7 months, you will have no problem training for a half marathon. If you don't do it, you may regret not taking the challenge! :)

Do it! It will be a great goal!

I would do it. You have a decent running base and plenty of time to build on it. :)

I'd say do it too! I ran my first 1/2 this month and am HOOKED. Its my fav race distance. And you really dont even have to 'race' it, just go and enjoy the experience =)
