Okay, since I totaled my car I've been walking A LOT. Now I walk just to walk. So I thought maybe all of those here that walk could chime in daily or whenever they walk to say how far, how fast, and how it felt. Any takers?

I've been working my way up to 50 minutes each way, twice a week. I have a long stride and walk a quick pace - but my heartrate will only be in the 100 to 110 BPM range, even after walking one set.

When I get to a smidge over an hour each way, I plan to gradually introduce some running. I'm looking forward to the daylight increasing soon, so that I can do more walking after work. I'd like to get up into the "more days than not" stage.

I'm a walker! Not by choice but by injury, lol. As soon as my feet are all healed up I will be running again. Incidentally one place I go to walk is called Meyer's Park which is your shown location.

I try to do 3-5 days a week for 30 plus minutes. The plus is usually dependant upon who is with me and what the weather is like.

I will definately enjoy participating in this thread. Sometimes I have a great walk and have no one to share it with.

Today I watched msnbc and did the treadmill for 60 minutes. They are going off the deep end about Sarah Palin and whatnot but I was entertained.

darway where in Charlotte are you? It's a huge city with many parts. Do you walk around your block or the city?

Noel I miss the treadmill but it's easier for me to walk outside. The first day after I lost my car I walked 14 miles and it took 8 hours. Now I can do 3 miles in an hour. The other day I missed the bus and walked 6 miles in two hours. I love to walk.

Nothing today because of the snow, but maybe tomorrow. Yesterday and Friday were both 2 hour walks to the store, around the store, and back home carrying lots of groceries.

I live near the southern end of the McMullen Creek greenway. That's one amenity of Charlotte I get plenty of use from!

I love to walk ..... it is summer here in New Zealand so it is the season to get out there .... I going to try and walk 3-4 times a week and mix it up with other classes or gym work .... We have a little lake which you walk down to an I like to go up and down the stairs to get the heart rate going a little faster ....

My last walk was Saturday around the lake with quite a few stair climbs .... time was about 80 minutes

I also live/work in a large city and commute to work by walking/train. Every day I walk about 2 miles, some days more. Yesterday I also walked to the gym at lunch which added an extra mile round trip.

I love walking and while it can be a pain when it's cold, it's nice to have some "forced exercise" in my day.

Jesse the treadmill is a necessity for me. I'm on the south central coast and the heat can be dangerous during about half of the year. I also have a toddler so most days its just easier to hop on the machine instead of load up the car with various familial necessites, drive somewhere and then try and teach a baby walking trail etiquette while I completely forget about my momentum LOL!

I envy your snow. Some of the best walking workouts I've ever had were in Alaska walking through snow in some high boots. You have to completely raise your leg to get above the drifts and after about 10 minutes of that your legs are jello!

I'm definitely not knocking treadmills. They are great in the heat of summer or dead of winter, I just no longer have access to one. I would love to have one today. If I had shoes to walk in the snow, it might not be bad but with only a couple of snow days a year, they'd be an unnecessary expense.

I can't wait for this stuff to melt and get back out there. Unfortunately, I think it's going to take a few days for it to melt which means being housebound for a few more days. Ugh, I already miss walking.
