Default Early AM Exercisers---How Do You Do It?

How do I make myself get up in the morning to work out? I would have to get up at like 4:30, so I am having trouble convincing myself that it is a good idea. LOL! I used to work out after work, but I have now taken on another PT job, so that is not feasible anymore. But, I still can't convince my brain to get my butt out of bed. How do you all do it?

I only have to do this some of the time (when I travel for business...which means it isn't every day, but I also never get into the habit of it, so every time it is difficult).

The key is to make it non-negotiable. When traveling, I sleep in my gym clothes. I wouldn't sleep through my alarm and just decide to be late for work, or for breakfast with a friend...so I make exercise the same level of commitment. Not getting up and doing it is just not an option.

Had- it is a hrad habit to establish, but well worth it!
Start by taking 1 week, and just GETTING UP at 4 30. You dont have to go work out yet, but get your body used to the idea and routine of waking up that early. It really only takes a couple of weeks before your body has adjusted to the new schedule.

It becomes routine once you start doing it everyday!! I wake up at 4:40 a.m. every weekday and get up and throw on my workout clothes that are ready to go for the morning time. I am tired when I first wake up, but I always feel so much better after my workout, mentally and physically and the best part is I have the energy to make it through the day and I sleep better at night, no problems falling asleep. LOL

I just do it. Once it is a routine it is a routine. Getting up is not the issue for me, it is convincing my butt to get working! HAHA. I always always feel better afterwards, and I am not at all tired, I could actually get on the workout on my lunch break, that is how good I feel. But the convincing part is again the biggest problem! HAHA

Good luck!

My husband and I have to get up at 3am, we get ready for work, carpool downtown, he drops me off at the gym at 5:20am I work out get to my desk by 8am, home by 7:30pm.

It sucks...but it's what I have to do. Once I'm there it's ok...it's the putting on the workout clothes in the morning that's the hardest. However, having said that...the rest of the day always goes GREAT and I am so glad I've done it. Every time!

I think the others have said it all. I just want you to know you are not alone. I was FAITHFUL to my morning workout routine from April until September. The sun is coming up later & the weather got colder - I don't know if I've managed even 2 AM workouts since. So, I've had to readjust, which some nights meaning getting on the treadmill at 10:30pm.

I guess you pick your poison - late to bed or early to rise. Truthfully, I felt A LOT better working out in the morning. Just do it...I will, too.

I'm much more of a late nighter, so waking up early is difficult for me. But i tend to look at it as getting it done and out of the way. By the time I'm at work, I've forgotten that I worked out, and when I remember, it's nice to know I'm already done for the day!

I also was faithful with morning workouts during the summer, but now having troubles getting up since it's dark out. I bought a Philips Wake Up Light (dawn simulator) to make it easier to get up. Only used it today, but I got up today!

All clothes laid out the night before. Socks sitting in shoes. Shoes unlaced and ready for feet. Hat, gloves, reflective vest out.

Morning begins the night before, as they say, so do everything you need to be prepped to just get out the door.

How do you ladies fuel yourselves for morning workouts? I got up early this morning to run and my stamina and muscles were atrocious - performance was maybe at 40-50% of a typical after-work run. I was out the door about ten minutes after waking up and didn't eat or drink anything.

I set two alarms, one on my phone, one on my clock. I put all my work out clothes on my nightstand so when I go to hit snooze on the alarms, I see them. It doesn't work sometimes but for most of the time, its great.

I get up, have my coffee, visit the ladies room, usually have some cereal and then go out for my morning walk. If I don't something first my stomach feels all gross and my energy is low.

Yeah, I'm thinking going out with an empty stomach isn't ideal. I just hate feeling my recently eaten food bouncing around while I run though - TMI but sometimes it wants to come back up via burps!

I did it!

CherylMN--did you? I used to be Cheryl (from MN) and now I am Cheryl (from SD). LOL! Where are you in MN?

So anyway, I did it! And it didn't kill me. Actually, it felt great! And now I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day, but, if I want to work out a second time today, now I can, after work!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. And for those of you who don't do it, try it.
