Commuting by bike?

Just wondering if anyone does this.. or would like to join me in it?

I would LOVE to be able to commute to the supermarket.. and to DD's school. But I think that is about as far as I could go. DS's school is a 10 mile round trip up and down HUGE hills. Need more endurance before I can do that how awesome would that be tho!

I've been thinking about doing this, but there are two things stopping me. 1, a fear of cars hitting me, and 2, helmet hair.

I would really like to buy a bike and start using it more to get around. I guess I need to get over it or not get to enjoy it.

Best of luck! I think it's a great idea :)

I started commuting by bike while training for my first century and I love it. As a means of transportation, you don't feel like you are exercising once you get used to it.

Start small, it doesn't matter how long the trip is. What happened is you start taking lots of small trips and soon you are biking 50 miles a week, which is way more than time that I would spend at the gym!

I had the worry of being hit by cars as well luckily I am a SAHM and can go when trafic is light. We live on a rather busy road, so If I take back roads which adds 8 miles I can take DS in the bike trailer with me.

As for the helmet hair.. I dont know how long yours is but I just do a french braid and that way its all flat against my head anyways :)

I work in a mall that is a half hour bus ride away, all streets on the way to it are busy unfortunately. I have thought about getting a bike to bike down to New West, which is a city just below me. I go there often to work out or shop.

I have curly hair and doing a french braid isn't always easy! I can french braid pig tails though so maybe I could try that..

I'll have to reconsider this idea :)
