Default No exercise for at least a WEEK!!

I've been having some pain in my back so the other day I decided to go to the chiropractor (I haven't been there in a couple of years). He told me not to do any exercise for the rest of the week until I get 3 sessions in with him (he thinks it's all I'll need, then maybe once a month or even every other month). Well of course I didn't listen. I've done my regular workouts for the last 3 days. I went again today and he really wants me to rest, just through next week. I really want to listen to him but I CAN'T!!!! I joined a gym this week and my orientation is scheduled for tonight. Plus there are classes that I LOVE going to and I would hate to skip them. It's breaking my heart that I'm not supposed to do anything!! Plus I don't know if I can keep my eating habits clean enough to justify no workouts for a week. UGH!!

Please listen to your Doc. He's the one that knows best... One week to recoup or much longer if you really hurt it bad for not listening... Make the right choice or pay for it in the long run...

Going to the gym makes me happy, so I can understand your pain (no pun intended )

I think you need to ask the doctor what benefit you will gain from resting your body. It could be that he doesn't want you doing weights but cardio is really ok. And as long as you are not clear on the benefits, you will keep going to the gym. Take it from me, I know.

A couple of years ago I had hip surgery and my doctor said no gym for 6!!!! weeks. Well. THAT wasn't going to work for me, nope, not at all. So the doc and I talked it through and he, if I promised to stick to the program, allowed me to do things that didn't involve my hip. My upper arms have never looked better

YMMV

OK, this is my personal prejudice showing.....

I had really really bad back/hip pain years ago and went to a chiro and was told I would NEVER be able to do impact exercise, drive a stick, sit on a couch or soft chair again ever in my life. By 2 weeks after following her recommended rest practices I was nearly crippled with pain. NOTHING is worse for my back than rest. Now at times I have to modify what activities I do, but rest is not among them.

I would consult an (actual) doctor or physical therapist to get a second opinion as to the cause of the back pain and alternative therapies.

*ducking as all the chiropractic fans throw things at my head*

LOL I totally understand where you're coming from. I used to have something against chiropractors until I gave it a chance. Fortunately my problem isn't major so I've good experiences so far, but I really am very nervous about going.

Just so you know I am not a chiro fan either... I won't go into details, but we can protect each other from the debris
