Default Warming Up

What do you do to warm up before hitting the treadmill? I've just been doing leg stretches and slow walking for 2 minutes. Is that enough?

I have bad knees (genetic) but you really should be doing about 10 minutes of walking before you get into your real cardio, just to make sure everything is warmed up. You will be less sore and feel less tired if you warm up long enough.

Well my gym has a sauna and a steam room in it so on days that I run indoors on the treadmill I'll stop in the sauna for 5-10 minutes and stretch in there. It really helps to warm my muscles up a bit especially when I'm tired or cold. If I run outside then I stretch out and do some speed walking for about 10 minutes before I start running. Hope I helped!

I stretch, then start my treadmill session with about 2 minutes of brisk walking. Then I increase to a moderate jog, and ramp up the speed more when I get good and warmed up, which takes about a mile or so.

I do no stretching before running, I just start out at a slower pace with run/walk intervals, then slowly ramp up speed as I get warmed up. I very occasionally stretch a little after a run.

I usually just walk for a couple of minutes.

I always stretch after the run. I know there are conflicting theories on stretching--I fall in the camp that you should stretch your muscles after a workout to promote recovery and maximize its effectiveness.

Thanks for the input! I guess if I walk at a slower pace first it'll be fine.

Try walking at a slower pace, until your muscles are warmed up, then jump off and stretch....then go back to your work-out...after the work-out stretch again. I think you will be with this routine.
