Hello! I haven't ever posted in the fitness community before - I've been working out (off and on) for 4 years...I mainly do kickboxing classes (once a week) and usually it's just cardio...lately (last few months) I've been working on weight training and today - for the first time ever...I took my first spinning class...and it kicked my BUTT!!!
I made it for 50 minutes (10 minutes warm up plus 40 of the 60 minute class)...I had to stop and leave (thankfully I was right next to the door) because I felt like I was going to puke and pass out...but I stuck around to talk to the instructor and I'm going back next monday! I absolutely LOVED it!
I've always wanted to try a spinning class! It sounds like fun.
I'm glad you listened to your body and stopped when you needed to. Maybe next time take it a little bit slower and then build up from there? I'm glad you found something that you love!
I LOVEEEE spinning! I just got into it last month. It's easy to overdo it though, definitely. It takes a while to get used to what your body is capable of and what to set the resistance at. You need to know what your "50% of max is" so you don't burn out too fast!
But for your first class that's awesome! That's great you enjoyed it! You'll be sore tomorrow, (haha) but it'll be worth it!
I took one class, and I LOVED it. About 20 mins in I thought I was gonna die, but I did not stop. I have not been back because I just never make it there in time. The y I go to does not have classes at a very good time for me.
I remember I had a REALLY hard time pacing myself during my first spinning class. And my second, really, lol. But it's so much fun! This fall when I join the gym at grad school, I'll definitely look into spinning classes, I haven't done it in a few years.
Oh yeah...it's tuesday morning and my butt HURTS!!!! but I know this feeling because I used to be a bike rider - I lived in Chicago for 3 years and didn't have a car/too expensive, so i rode my bike EVERYWHERE (6 miles to and from home/school [lakeview/downtown]) so i KNOW this feeling of the first time getting on a bike every year. lol...but i AM down a pound and a half this morning!!!
But thanks for all your guy's support. I can't WAIT til next week! My class DOES do spinning 5days a week - but i think, for now - i'm doing it JUST on mondays...lol
I'm trying to make it to more of them myself. Glad you liked it! Don't be afraid to dial the tension knob down a bit if you need to. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water before/during/after. I've never sweat as much (except once while moving to a new apartment on a 90 something, humid day in late June). Being dehydrated can add to that exhausted, achy feeling, so make sure to keep hydrated.
