Any hikers out there?

I love to hike! I probably hit the trails about 4-5 times a week. I hike anywhere from about 1-1/2 hours at a time.

I don't wear a heart monitor/calorie counter but fellow hikers who do wear them tell me they burn about 500 calories an hour. They are approximately my size/weight.

All I have to say is that it is a great way to burn mega calories, get in touch with nature, and get some good, fresh air. 500 calories burned means I get to eat more! YEAH!!

I live in central Arizona so its anywhere from 40-70 degrees right now when I hike. I don't mean to rub it into anyone who lives in horribly, cold weather.
Just to make you feel better..it gets anywhere from about 100-115 here in the summer! Feel better now?

Anyways, hiking is awesome and I just wondered who else enjoys it as much as I do?

I enjoy hiking too, but I'm kind of a weather wimp. I do most of my hiking in the spring and summer. I'm pretty close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, but the park doesn't allow dogs (leashed or otherwise). Instead, my dog and I hit the trails at some of the other areas in east Tennessee (I always love the funny looks I get when my stubby-legged little Corgi dog comes bounding up the trailway!). One of the things that I love about hiking is that feeling I get when you hit the top of the mountain or a great lookout point. It's a combination of amazement that I actually hauled myself *that* high and amazement at just how pretty everything looks from so far up.

I love to hike. DH and I bought trekking poles for Christmas. The kids took us to Yosemite as our Christmas gift and we hiked several trails. It was wonderful!

It is hard to hike in northern MI in the winter, so we cross-country ski instead. But I already have hiking fever and I can't wait until spring :)

Yes, it is a favorite of mine and my husband! We recently took a trip to Zion National park and hiked Angel's Landing! That was a really difficult hike, the most difficult so far and was such a great accomplishment to reach the top. We've hiked in Yellowstone, Arches, Sequoia, Bryce and many more!
