lots of swimming should i rest?

im posting this here and the 100 pound club.. i thougt you guys would know more about exercise and they would know more about losing weight at my size lol..

OK today i went to my parents hour with the kids for a swim we spent all day in the pool again and i did 300 laps (30 ft pool)and played with the kids for hours. we were in there from about 11 till almost 6 pm .. Now the question is ... the last time we went swimming Saturday last week i was starving the next day and i have not lost any weight this week ..

So i am wondering if i rest will that help with the weight loss? last week i went straight back to my 1 hour workout ( elliptical and aerobics combination) the next day and have done it all week apart from yesterday when i went for a 2 hour walk instead .. so what do you think?? I was very tired and hungry Sunday last week and assuming tomorrow will be the same so should i just rest or still workout? I want to lose weight this week.. lol . what do you think?

I don't know that there's a universal answer to this--you have to listen to your body. That said, exercising frequently (daily, or 5-6 days a week) is a very good thing. It's possible that your body was just holding onto water with the exercise last week, but it will get used to it. If you feel really exhausted you could skip 1 workout, but no more than that.

If you're feeling hungry, it might be necessary to re-evaluate your diet. (I've found that when I start exercising after an extended hiatus, I'm starving afterwards. But after a couple of weeks my body acclimatizes and the post-workout hunger becomes more moderate.)

I get really hungry the day after an intense leg workout and what I do is eat...but eat very healthy and as unprocessed as possible lots of lean proteins and veggies I also drink a lot of water... Were you eating healthy the day you played in the pool for so long? Eating a protein and healthy carb every 2-3 hours is very important....Sometimes we don't feel our thirst when we're in a pool full of water, so drinking a lot of water is very important even when you think you're not thisty...

Also I wanted to add that if you were feeling fine the next day physically, then I would go ahead and exercise more...

Swimming makes me ravenous, more so than any other form of exercise. Definately keep a water bottle handy while you're in the pool and keep sipping it throughout and it will help. Having healthy food afterward will stop you feeling like you could eat everything in sight. But for swimming, at least for me, that is totally normal. You just have to be careful what you choose to eat when you're that hungry and you should be ok.

i have been doing a daily workout for about 2 months now .. so its not a new thing .. but last week the day after swimming watch out lol.. today so far im not even hungry but i am kinda tired.. I might do half my usual if i feel up to it later .. 30 minutes is better then nothing.. im still pissed about not losing any weight this week but i spose its just one of those things lol..

My diet is fine i make sure with the aid of fit day i get all the vitamin ect i need and i eat 1800 -1900 cals a day. I eat healthy and plan my meals around what nutrient fitday says im low on lol.. i know kinda obsessive but.. i want to be as healthy as i can be lol..

I too swim a lot as well as do water aerobics twice a week. When I talked to people about being ravenous after swimming they stated that performing exercises in the water keeps your body temperature down and that afterwards your body wants more fuel to help bring it up to normal. On average people tend to consume 250-300 more calories following a water workout than a land workout. I find eating something high in fiber with some protein works well for me. Steel cut oatmeal with skim milk, cinnamon, and fresh peaches is really good and very low-cal/low-fat.

I used to get the swimming ravenous thing...also from the body temp I find it helps a lot to make the first food something like hot soup, even on a warm day
