Default Should I sign up? (5k)

I'm doing the C25k plan and I was wondering if I should go ahead and sign up for a 5k? If all goes according to plan, I should be done with it in mid September. I've had my eye on a run scheduled at the end of October. Should I go ahead and sign up or is that too soon?

I did one and it was very fun! The one I entered was a walk/run, so there were a lot who didn't run. Even if you can't run the entire 5k, you can always take a break and walk a section just like you're doing on the c25k program.

Imagine my chagrin when the old guy (must have been close to 70) who was PUSHING his wife in a wheelchair overtook me and my DH!

Anyway, DO IT! You won't regret it!

Signing up for my first one was the best thing I did. I signed up before I had even started running. It really lit the fire under me to start and I haven't stopped since. I've done a couple 5K's, a 10K, and now I'm signed up for a triathlon.

I say do it! Worst case you can walk when you need to. There are plenty of walkers out there and it's a lot of fun!

Do it!

It will give you a goal and motivation to stick with the program. Besides, even if you don't finish on the program, you can still do the 5K, and just run as much of it as you can. Then you'll have a time to beat, and you can challenge yourself from there!

Hooray! Congrats on the decision to sign up and good luck. I felt such a sense of acomplishment when I did my first 5k last spring.

Don't forget to take a finish line photographer with you. You'll want to remember that moment forever.

Races are so much fun! Way back in my pre-kids, pre-lardbutt stage, I ran 10ks for fun now and then. I just ran my first post-kids, post-lardbutt (actually "during", not "post" yet ) 5k in May and had a blast!

The couple with a stroller passed me by. The young kids passed me by. The speed-walker twice my size passed me by. The old men and older ladies passed me by. The man with one leg passed me by. The old man carrying a kid on his shoulders passed me by.

The good news? I got to check out everyone's butts! *high five*

I'm doing another one, a "mud run" in October and plan to have just as much fun (but this time, I'm tripping at least one old lady so I can come in ahead of her!).

I'd sign up now. There's really no need to wait until you're DONE with the program. You can walk or run in them, so go ahead and sign up for one and just have some fun. Run what you can. I haven't had the opportunity to do one since we left NH in 2004, but finally signed up and ran one on a last minute decision last weekend. I was surprised to find that, although I haven't been running as often as I used to, nor doing 3 miles since the baby, that I managed to do it in 33:47 WITH a stroller loaded to the max. You just might surprise yourself. The competition sometimes can give you added boost.

Yay! I'm so glad you decided to sign up! I'm having a little race euphoria myself right now, since I just talked myself into signing up for a marathon in October. So, I think everyone should be out there racing!
