what should your heart rate be?

:?: I'm a newbie, and I was wondering what my heart rate should be when working out. When I'm done with my work out I usaully jump on the treadmill for a quick 1mile walk. And my heart rate said 150 today. I thought that was kinda high for a cool down? any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Oh there are so many theories on this. So very very many.

I will put in a push for the percieved exertion method which is you should spend the BULK of your exercise at a range where you can talk smoothly but your breathing is very noticible - where any faster and talking would be effort and do intervals into the "can talk but really dont want to" arena.

Here we go scroll down about 1/2 way for the scale
http://dietandbody.com/exercise/2007...kout-zone.html

When starting spend most of your time between a 6 and 7 and work intervals of 7-8 in. As you progress you can play with spending the bulk of your time at a 7-8 with intervals as high as 9

FWIW - I spend the bulk of my cardio at 165-170 bpm with intervals of 180-185 or did the last time I measured
