I am new to exercise. I've been going to my Y most everyday since the beginning of February. Although it's strange to say it, I'm really enjoying challenging myself. I'm training to walk (as close to a jog as I can) my very first 5k and work myself up to a Danskin Tri in May of 2008.

I've been reading about the Nike+. I have an ipod and love this whole idea. If you have one, does it really work like the website says? Do you find it an inspirational/useful training tool?

I have the nike+ipod attachment. just be sure you have the nano b/c that is the only version of ipod it is compatible with. I love mine. I use it everytime i run outside. Its not accurate on a treadmill because both your feet are in constant motion so it thinks you are running faster and longer than you really are! it's pretty darn accurate too. you have to calibrate it at first...and then once you do that - voila - it calculates everything for you! i would suggest it for any outdoors running or walking!

Well that pretty much sums up the way that I feel about it. If you already have a Nano, then it's a pretty small investment for such a cool toy. It is so simple really but somehow it really motivates me. I do use it on the treadmill but did find that it was a bit off on the distance. I haven't yet calibrated it but it seems much more accurate outside.

I love setting a distance goal and then hearing my progress. Their website is also really cool and simple and it can track all your runs. I love going home after a run and plugging in the Nano to my computer.

I wanted to get this but my husband said that you have to have special shoes. Is that true or does the kit come with an attachment for regular shoes?

Nope you don't...I use my mizuno running shoes. you can buy attachments for your shoes like the ones here: http://www.shoepouch.com/ or http://www.switcheasy.com/. There are others out there. I couldn't find the site where i bought mine but i love it. its sleek and fits like a glove around my sensor laces onto my shoes.

You definitely do not need the shoes. At first, I thought the same thing but I use something similar to the shoepouch described. I couldn't find that product near me so I went to my running store and bought a small pouch that's made for runners to hold a house key. It's a bit bigger than the shoe pouch but it works fine. I just had to wrap the chip in some tissue to hold it in place in the pouch. That's the only trick. The chip can't slide around or it won't work properly. I've never had a problem with it!

And it is SO motivational~ If you already have the nano, I highly recommend it. If you don't have the nano, it's a bit more of a finacial commitment, but as I've said, I LOVE MINE!!!

I also have the shoe pouch and it works great.

I got mine last November, and absolutely love it! I already had a nano, so the cost of the kit and a pouch for my shoes (I don't use the Nike shoes) was pretty minimal, but it really does work well. You'll have to calibrate it when you first get it, but it's very easy to use, and I love hearing Lance Armstrong congratulate me when I hit a new record!

I love mine too.. I actually have the Nike shoes, but am soon going to have to go to a real running store and get my gait analyzed, make sure I get some shoes that work for me. www.lacelid.com has really good holders for the sensor if you use your regular shoes. They are the ones that I hear the best feedback about. Seems like so many of us have this, we should get a challenge together.
