Yard work
So yesterday, I spent about 3 hours digging up the driveway in preparation for putting down gravel. I drank about 3 liters of water and apparently sweat it all out since I didn't have to pee for the rest of the day, so must've worked pretty hard. But anyways... about how many calories would that have burned?
And today I am really, really sore. Should I wait until I'm not sore again to start doing more yardwork (my exercise of choice since I feel like I'm really accomplishing something), or will I get stronger faster by exercising daily, sore or not?
Well, I suppose it depends on badly the yardwork needs to be done .
In my completely unqualified and amateur opinion, when you are really really sore, it's probably a good idea to give yourself a day off. Maybe just do some stretching and a little light yardwork, just to get things loosened up a bit, but don't do any heavy stuff. From what I've read, giving yourself a day off allows your muscles to heal, which is when they grow.
Calorie burning is different for everyone, so that's hard to say. But I think that you not going to the bathroom for the rest of the day means you were really dehydrated, which may be why you're so sore today. I would say take a day, get hydrated, then go for it again.
You might want to take an extra bit of Vitamin C....it can help alleviate or lessen the pain that comes from too much physical labor, at least it works for me. Something my mother taught me years ago.
