Default Dont know how to set up a routine

I just joined the gym less than a week ago. I am 5'4" and 168 lbs. BF% 35.
I am also in the reserves so I am working on my 1.5 mile run.
So I do my run 4 x a week plus I have done 3 strength training sessions, 3 elliptical sessions and spinnign class 1x.
Is this good for a week?
I dont know how to set up a strength training plan..What to work what days and which machines, weights etc to use...Any advice out there? Thanks
Amy

Hi Amy! If you just joined the gym, do they have trainers or staff members that can help you set up a routine? I just started using free weights in my home about a month ago. I'm reading alot but mostly just winging it. I did just buy a book called The 28 Day Shapeover. Seems like a big variety of exercises for all body parts, for both the gym and home user. Maybe check some info out in the other forums (ladies who lift, etc.), ask questions and read, read, read! Good luck!

I think that when you're starting weight training especially it's important to have someone help you, not just to show you a routine, but to show you how to do the exercises right. Good form is important so you don't injure yourself!

Lots of gyms have trainers who can, at the very least, do something for you. If you have the $$, it might be nice to find one you can work with, at least for a while. I consider the money I've spent on training to be very well spent!

I did receive 2 free training sessions and did those. And when I have the money I plan to do the personal training thing once a week. But they make you sign a 1 year contract and its at minimum 140 a month..For 12 months...I jsut cant do that rightnow on top of a 70 a month gym membership.
EXPENSIVE!
I did learn a lot those 2 days as far as using machines but thats the best I can do right now...

Wow, a one-year contract sounds like a lot!

We had options of different packages and they were based on sessions, not flat fees/month.

It is based on one session a week. It is $35 a session.

You could lurk really close to the PTs when they're helping someone else and pick up tips on the sly. Shhhh!
