Default Mio HR watch

Has anyone used the Mio HR watch? I bought one a few years ago and never used it and two months ago I started using it. It worked really well for two months and then it became very unreliable, it would take forever to get a HR and sometimes it wouldn't. So I figured it was because the watch was old. So I got a new one. I still find it isn't very reliable - sometimes I get a weird reading ie HR of 230 (no way my HR was that). Anyone else have a similar experience? Is there a better HR watch out there? I don't like the ones with the chest strap- I know they are more reliable.
