Default Help with mini cycle question

Hello all,
I recently bought one of those mini stationary bicycle machines, the kind that you can use with your feet or your arms. Well, I can only use it with my arms because of my chronic and at times excruciating back problems, but because of the way I have to use it... I don't really work up a sweat or have my heart rate go up much when I am doing my workouts. However, the machine does say that I am burning plenty of calories when I use it. My question is this....
Is this type of exercising still going to produce weight loss results, even if I don't go through the usual physical "suffering" that I would normally feel when I have burned the same number of calories doing more strenuous exercise? I can't seem to get that old saying out of my head - 'No pain, no gain.' Well, I have to intention of putting myself through the pain part of it anymore if I can help it. I am already on prescription pain killers, which do help, but only if I don't purposely do an activity that would normally cause me back pain. I know how important it is to get regular exercise, and this is the ONLY thing I can do. Thanks.
