If you are on a strict low carb program such as Atkins, you will want to buy those types of products. If you are on any other kind of diet, then you need to look at the calories, fat, sugar, and ingredients to see if it fits in with your plan. Your whole diet has to be low carb to get the benefit from the specially prepared low carb foods. Good carb diets, such as South Beach, can sometimes benefit from them, but you have to read the ingredients first. Either way, if you eat too much of them, you might not lose as much weight. Even on low-carb, calories still count.

I can't believe all those fat grams in that Ruby Tuesday cheesecake!
|
The thing is, when you compare it to a regular Cheesecake, it's still a better selection. It's just as delicious as any other cheesecake I've tasted and it has a few grams LESS fat than most, 4 or 5 more grams of fiber, and of course a load of difference in carbs (about 50 less). As well, it has over 100 less calories than others.
I have it as a treat very seldom. Generally, I stick with a Smart Ones Weight Watchers cheesecake as a treat. They're just 150 calories and I think only a couple grams of fat. But they're higher on the carbs. Still not near that of a normal cheesecake though.
Although I'm bummed. Ruby's is my favorite spot and they changed their menu this week. They no longer have the blueberry delite.

well, atkins IS a high fat diet, and the foods aren't claiming to be low fat, they are low carb...it's not as if it's deceiving...

I like just 2 good salad dressings...the only bad one is the ranch, because theyd on't use mayonaise, but I LOVE ranch....so what I'll do is buy a packet of ranch seasoning and mix it with just 2 good mayonaise (2 grams of fat) and make it that way...

Anyone ever try Walden Farms dressing? They sell it in some grocery stores. It's generally with the bagged salads. Shaw's in the north, and Farm Fresh in our area both carry it. It's 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 fat, 0 sugar...nothing but sodium. Makes one wonder what's in it. LOL The honey dijon and italian are good. I have both of those right now. Everything on both of them is 0. The sodium on the dijon is 270mg and on the italian is 250mg for a 2 tbsp. serving.
Ingredients (dijon): purified triple filtered water, cider vinegar, white vinegar, dijon mustard, white pepper, salt, food starch modified, natural flavor, natural spices, basil, onion, garlic, beta carotene, titanium dioxide, xanthan gum, propylene glycol alginate, sodium benzoate, sucralose.
Very similar on the italian. They're put out by Walden Farms, Inc. in Linden, NJ http://www.waldenfarms.com/store.htm

I bought a Walden Farms dressing (Bleu Cheese) from a sport nutrition store and they had what seemed like all of their products. I've seen them in such places as Target as well.
They taste ok and kind of have a funny taste but its alright. As I don't really care for dressing much anyway, it doesn't matter to me. What I have actually been using lately as dressing is a chunky salsa that is very low calories but they are due to the tomatoes in it.

I don't like bleu cheese, but I tried the ranch and didn't care for it. Had that "funny" taste you mentioned. But the italian and dijon are actually pretty good. I've tried a few of them and those are the two I always stick with. But I never thought of salsa as a salad dressing. I'm gonna give that a try.
