Default Article re: dangers of supplements

Interesting article about the dangers of supplements.

Two takeaways:
1. Always keep in mind that these supplements are not regulated. They do not need to prove that they are safe OR effective before hitting the shelves.
2. Something that seems "natural" (like green tea extract) is not by definition good for you or safe. There is nothing natural about drinking a gazillion cups of tea (or consuming the equivalent amount in a pill).

Back in the saddle. Again.

Definitely need to be careful with supplements. There are definitely regulations in EU for supplements, but it's still always good to do some research.

Green Tea Extract really can cause acute liver failure if you take too much of it. I have a small scale that I've used to measure my supplements and I'm surprised how little GTE I can actually take to be on the safe side (approximately 1/4 of teaspoon couple of times per day). I was just reading about a research where overweight women were taking 10g of GTE twice per day and they lost a lot more fat compared to the placebo groups. Still, 20g of GTE per day sounds like a lot and I'd be curious to find out what effect it had on their livers.

Oh, and definitely agree that just because something is "natural" doesn't make it safe. You can die from many things found in nature that are unfit for human consumption.
