    It works like this:

    Situation A) passing along a book to a friend when you are done with it

    Situation B) Rewriting facts from the book on a public message board.

    With A, you are using your copy within the rights granted to you upon its purchase.

    With B, you are essentially making a copy and re-distributing, which violates the copyright (twice). These priviliges belong to the owner of the copyright or to whomever those rights have been licensed to (not you, the purchaser of the book).

    Sorry.... I'm *slightly* passionate about copyright law. It's kind of a turn on
