Default Adderall XR

First, let me say i have been diagnosed with ADHD by my therapist and she put me on this med. It's not just something some whacko doc gave me for weight loss.

But the major side effect is complete loss of appetite. Even smelling food makes me gag.

Just wondering if there are others here who take this, and do they see this side effect also?

thinnythighs ~ Is it helping you with ADHD? I hope so! Plus you're losing weight (thank you, thank you, thank you LOL). I don't have ADHD but my son does. He's 10 and we started him on Adderall XR several months back and his appetite immediately went away. He was on Concerta before this and the same thing happened. After a while, his appetite sorta' came back. Never fully but much better than at the beginning. As a parent, it's worrisome since he is already very thin and I just worry about him not getting enough good food in his system. The big problem with him is that he doesn't get enough fats in his diet (I can't imagine!). He loves raw fruits and veggies, which is great, but he needs protein. As a parent his weight was becoming a concern so we've gotten in the habit of fixing him a huge milkshake every night before bed. Good luck!

Well, it's a mixture of amphetamines, whose original formulation was an anti obesity drug. If it didn't take away your appetite, I'd be very odd!

Do you have any unpleasant side effects? What is your dosage? Do you feel like you have ADHD?

My son is 11 and has been on adderall for a couple of years. It works well for him. He has never been an eater so we did not notice a change. I have heard that some eat a large breakfast before they take the med. It may be something that you adjust to with time or maybe lowering the dosage would help.

My neice (10 years old) is on it and it helps her so much, we don't know how she'd get through school with out it (well basically she can't.) She's lost a good amount of weight on it but is now stable. She was overweight.

I have ADHD as well but not currently on any meds. GOOD LUCK !!!
