I'm not sure of the scientific effects of green tea on the body, but for me, green tea really helps suppress my appetite. Although it's been said that any hot drink will suppress your appetite, what's the harm on making that drink something healthier than hot chocolate, regular tea or coffee! I used to drink a lot of regular tea for the same effect but have now switched to green tea and I genuinely feel like it helps me stop snacking. Another reason I feel green tea might work is that a craving often will only last for about 10 mins and drinking green tea, for example, during this time will give you something to do to pass this time. When I'm finished my tea, my craving has gone!
Unfortunately, green tea can have a bitter taste that I, and others, may not like. This is why I always look out for flavoured green teas, my current favourite being green tea with lemon, though this can be achieved at home with a squeeze of lemon juice.
It might not be for everyone, but I recommend trying it! Apparantly Sophie Dahl swears by it!
