Oh, poor Jessica. I hope she heals quickly.
I am going to make a flourless cake today-saw the recipe on the Today show. No workers here today and it's raining so pollen and dust should settle. I think it's more the dust-You wouldn't believe how much it has accumulated. Of course I dusted and that made it worse.
Slept again in my own bed-Brad woke me up at 4 but I laid there and went back to sleep. Yeah for Tylenol pm.
Working on a quilt for Debbie-pink all over the place.
Leah has been kinda cool to me-she pushed my buttons the other day when she called twice to see if Brad needed her. I lost it and said we couldn't pay for everything, we were on a fixed income. I just feel she depends on us to give her the money she needs-and I get so nervous with all this money going out and nothing extra coming in. They went to do a job today and they will go back on Monday. That's ok because money is being paid.
Tammy-what percentage will you get? I retired at 60 with 34 years and got 68.8 % but the Cola is only on 1/3 of it. At least SS gives you a cola on all of it. I got granfathered in to collect but newer people can;t collect all their SS -it has to be offset in MA-we are trying to change that. I would be getting half of my deceased husband's if they did.
Have a good weekend. Mima

Sounds just like my best friend that fell off the ladder ... or rather that the ladder collapsed with and then fell on her! She is still on crutches and not able to work and won't be able to drive for at least 5 more weeks the Dr. said. She just got the stitches out of her arm this week. She's still in a lot of pain and about to go crazy with boredom. She's not used to sitting around.

I did find some good buys yesterday. I had a coupon for Dress Barn. $20 off for $75 or more. Daughter and I pooled our merchandise and we had more than $75 between us so split the coupon and saved $10 each, plus they had their sweaters buy one and get a second half price. I also had a coupon to save another 15% at Penney's. I bought hubby a shirt, me a blazer, 3 sweaters, a leather purse and a white lace blouse for Old Timer's Day at church Sunday. We're supposed to dress like they used to in the old days. I ordered a long black skirt from Penney's catalogue and this long sleeved blouse is perfect. It has little buttons & 'crinkled' material with lace running up & down the front. Big cuffs and a wide, 4" flat hem at the bottom that lays out over the skirt waist in the front. The black skirt drags the floor without my shoes. I'll have to wear heels. I also ordered a black, crocheted cape from Penney's. I bought hubby some blue overalls and a long sleeved white shirt that I'll put one of his ties with. Guess we'll be MA & PA!

Mima, I know you’ll be glad when that apt. is finished. I hate having something like that going on around me. Seems like you can’t get anything else done … there’s always a mess and people in your face. Sounds like Leah needs to find a ‘regular’ job that she can depend on … even if it’s just part-time. Maybe at a video store, theater or market or something. Perhaps you could suggest something like that to her … remind her you’ll be gone soon.

Don't know about this retirement thing. I don't know what I would do if I retired. Think I might get a tad bored. I'll be 60 next year so I don't have long. I'll draw off of what hubby has made ... it will be more than what I've put in. Ate too much yesterday. Had lunch with daughter ... chicken salad ... yum. Then came home and made Tacos for dinner and ate too much of that. Still feel full. Tacos always seems to make me feel full for a long time afterward. Must be the refried beans!

Good morning-we are going to VT but not taking the camper-too much work for one night. Brad was happy-room is a bit high but that is an expensive area.
Leah walked off the job yesterday-far from home. She kept after Brad about the way he ws doing things and he wasn't feeling patient-so she left. She has done this before-it's not her place to do that. Boundaries again!! We were concerned about how she got home but she picked up her car later.
Went to married couples bible study-lots of laughs. Brad didn't like it as much-I am sure he wasn't there 100% last night after what happened. We will see-it's only every other week and we will be gone. But it ws nice to get to know people.
What a shopping trip, Meme. All those new things!
Hope we see some good scenery. VT is so beautiful. Mima

Good morning.

Mima - hope you have a good trip to Vermont. That's a place I would love to visit one day. I hope you can let some of the sress with Leah go while you are away.

Joanne- I was reading the Diabetic thread this morning and somebody had posted this diet. You might like to read about it. Sounds good, and reasonable.

Back from VT early because of the rain. We took 4 hours instead of 2 to get there because we missed the route. So we couldn't do everything planned. But we did go to lunch, go to the top of Mt Stratton and go on a gondola ride-go to Mass -go out for dinner and then to the motel, This morning my brother cooked a great breakfast, although we found out we could have gotten a great breakfast at the hotel-Then we headed back-stopped only at one store-because it was POURING> Now we are just vegging out.
Haven't heard from Leah-maybe she's too embarrassed or maybe she's upset. It certainly was getting to be too much. I ma glad Brad didn't recommend her to an oil company if she can't take working for someone else.
Hope the weather is nicer where you are. Mima

Mima, I believe it is 66%. The COLA is 3% each year, and it is based on the base payment. A 3% increase is more than our school board has given us over the past 4-5 years.

Meme, your shopping trip sounds great!! Good for you!! I'm looking forward to retirement because then I can do more of the things that I don't have time to do now. I'd like to do more with the church. The women's group has their meetings during the day, so I've never been able to attend. I'd also like to volunteer with Hospice or at the local hospital. Some day I might decide to substitute teach, but that won't be in the near future.

Anne, hope you were able to get the house ready for your company. I was looking around here and thinking I should be doing the same thing. I work M-W-F this week, Tues. I have a couple of appointments, and Thurs. I have a doctor's appt. Thurs. afternoon will be cleaning house time.

Tim is coming home next weekend, and I don't want the place to look terrible. (Not that it looks that bad really). Maybe I'll go get started on the straightening up a few days early. I guess that wouldn't hurt, right?

Mima, we must have been typing our messages at the same time earlier!! Sorry that it rained for your trip! It is beautiful here today, and it's supposed to be about 80 most of the week.

Last night during the first quarter of the football game, they had to evacuate the stadium because severe weather was on its way. The sky looked awful! Luckily no tornadoes right in that area. They restarted the game after an hour, so we went back for the rest of the first half and for the halftime show. The band did a Beatles medley, and Bob and I like the Beatles. Tim know we'd enjoy it, so he was hoping that they'd get to finish the game. He and Jess came over afterwards, and we all went to IHOP for supper at 11;00. Way too late. We had a snack before the game to hold us till then. chex mix for me and a diet mt. dew. Yummy!

Kramer is home from the doggy hotel, he's had a bath, and his blankets and bath towel are in the washer. Now I'm ready for bed!! lol

I might have to check out that site for diabetics.

How many years did you teach, Tammy?
It was beautiful on Saturday-they have been wrong 2 weekends in a row.
Don't know if Leah will show up this morning, Praying that we will say the right thing.
Podiatrist today-eeeeek! My chiro told me to prepare for a long wait. He knows the doc. Good thing I have a new Ted Dekker book from library. I will also bring something else.
I have been eating some things that have been forbidden for a year. But I need to take it easy. Don't want to get in trouble.
Hi to everyone. Mima

Default Hey There

Happy- Thank You for the diabetic site. It was just what I was looking for...There are a couple more classes that I am going to take.I have started paying more attention to labels. It is surprising how many of the can veggies that has surgar in them. I am not sure how I am going to handle that little problem as I am not going to start cooking everything from scratch.
Tammy- When you retire you should have a lot more time to do more things to help you with your health problems.. I did not start to get serious about my weight till I retired from nursing.Ofcourse I had to have a knee replacement first. That really let me know that I had to get busy.
Mima- Is Leah a relative? Sounds like she is leaning on you a lot.. Come on down to Fl. The weather has been great lately..
Meme- You never know ..You may be ready to retire for long. If your hubby retires you will probably be right behind him. I did . It just took me 8 more years..And then because the Dr. said I had to..
Bye...Joanne

How much exercise do you all get? I am finding it hard to exercise with my FM. I am trying to walk but some days it seems impossible. I have a treadmill which I thought would make it easier...but it isn't.

Joanne, I think frozen veggies are better than canned. Too much sodium in them. Personally, I like fresh veggies cooked to just done . It is important to read labels, for sure.

Chris - I have a terrible time with exercise. My back doesn't hold up to that at all. I try to walk when I can, but with the pain and fatigue it isn't that often. I know I need to get moving.

I am off to bed. Hope you all sleep well.

I try to walk but only for a half hour. It does help.
Well I went to the podiatrist-talk about pain and almost passing out-finally he gave me a shot but that too was painful. But it's done.
Funny-on the way home, I found some cabinets like the ones Brad is going to install-called him and he came to get them-about 500$ worth, even if we have to buy the doors. Another person's junk can be a treasure!!!
Have to soak my toe twice a day and go back in 2 weeks-hope it doesn't grow in again-it was infected on both sides. Waited too long!
Leah is Brad's stepgrandaughter-like Jessica is to me. Problem is that she;s not good on boundaries. And she's young-25-think she knows everything-most young people are idealistic but they learn to conform. She will continue to have a hard time if she doesn't learn that. I am praying for her and us that the situation is resolved but I hope she doesn't work here-Brad is soft and I'm not. But we need to forgive because she doen't know what she's doing but we don't have to let her do it again.

I, too, could not walk for a long period of time. Here is what I do. I get on the treadmill, several times a day. Might only do 3 minutes but it is 3 more times that I would have done if I was sitting on my butt. But by doing it several times a day (4-5) I can get 15 minutes or so. I try to do 5 minutes at a time. Sometimes I manage 5 sometimes I don't. But I am moving some.

When I retire on Feb. 27, I will have taught 30.39 years. I graduated in Dec. of 76, and I did some subbing in the spring of 77. That's where I got the .39. Which Dekker book are you reading?

Joanne, I know on the days that I'm not going to school, I am doing more walking and exercising since I'm not so tired. My goal is to get into the Y more often too. The water aerobics two nights a week has been wonderful.

Chris, I walk at school and at home. Sometimes it's only for 10 minutes, and that's ok. What you are doing is exactly what my doctor told me to do. Little bits of walking many times during the day. It adds up!!

Mima, ouch to the podiatrist!! Do you want us to look him up and hurt him for you???? Hope things work out with you and Leah. I agree that she depends on you an awful lot. Any other relatives you can sick her on???? (Boy, I'm being mean today, aren't I???)

I got to move my butterfly two spots today! Need to get past the 10 by the time I go to my family doctor in November. He said 12 pounds when I was there in August. Well, I'm closer than I was I guess.

Hope you are all having a great day!!

Tammy,

Congrats on moving the butterfly the right direction. Good luck making goal.

When I got the dx of FM I was sent off to the rhmey. He was as useless as can be. He didn't give anything to help me cope. Never told me to exercise a couple of minutes at a time. My personal doc thought I was getting all I needed from the specialist. So what I have learned in pacing myself has come by trail and error. So many times I would clean house or exercise and land in bed for days. Now I know I can get more done if I do it a little at a time. Wish I was told that years ago.
