Is anyone here on Coumadin (Warfarin)?

  • It would be nice to have someone to talk to about losing weight while on Coumadin. I have to limit my Vit. K intake and I'm afraid of certain activities because I could bleed.

I don't want to sound rude, but I don't necessarily want advice on this topic, I'm just wondering if there is anyone out there on Coumadin and trying to lose weight/get fit.
  • I'm on coumadin for life. I've been on it for about 10 years. I haven't restricted myself in any way. The one thing I pay attention to is when I buy vitamins I try to buy one without vitamin K.

GNC MEGA GOLD *is one I was taking. This past month i noticed some bruises that I knew I didn't *get at the gym or work so I had my level checked and it had to be adjusted. I recently bought 1 a day vitamins it was made like gummi candy which I realized Is easier to take because you just pop them in your mouth and keep on going...taste like candy lol My daughter took it to school with her and I haven' t been taking a vitamin since

Make sure you watch for unsual bruising. My sister got admitted to the hospital because she got hugh bruises for no reason. She got to the ER AND her coumadin level was 10.... The norm is in the 2’s
  • I'm also on for life. I started in Sept. '12. I can take a multi w/ Vit. K. I can have 1-2 C. of leafy greens, veggies w/ Vit. K a day as long as I am consistent. I've had one large bruise, I didn't remember hitting anything, but my levels were normal and it healed quickly. My INR has to be between 2.5 and 3.0. I developed a clot while on Coumadin, so they want me levels to be higher. It's a tight range. Last check I was at 2.8, so that's perfect. I get it checked again at the end of the month. My doctor's office has a INR machine so I don't need my blood drawn all the time, yay!!

I'm 27 and I haven't met a lot of people my age on Coumadin. The only ones I "know" are from an on-line support group for May-Thurner's Syndrome.

    Thanks for replying.
  • My hubby has been on coumadin for 4yrs now. His levels stay pretty steady. It takes a really high dose to keep his levels right. He takes from 10-15 mg a day. We watch green veggies close. But our md told us to eat whats healthy and then adjust based on his levels. He is a diabetic so really needs to eat veggies.
