Exercise after cardiac ablation?

  • I had cardiac ablation for atrial flutter 5 weeks ago. I don't see the cardiologist for a recheck until April 19. I am eager to restart an exercise program. I am 56 and I need to lose 100 pounds. I was doing water aerobics when I developed this heart condition in February, and I know I need to get back to it.

Can anyone tell me if I will be released to do a full exercise program or will I have to do one of those supervised cardiac programs for awhile? Either way, I will do it. I am tired of feeling sluggish and heavy and well. . . I am ready to lose weight.

    Thanks!
  • I had a radio frequency ablation procedure about 10 years ago. I had some extra excitatory cells that caused an occasional episode of tachycardia.

The doc went in through a vein in my leg and the issue about taking it easy for a while had to do with not blasting out the plug that was put in the vein at the site. The doc told me right after the procedure that he was able to ablate the offending cells. I could resume regular exercise after about 4 weeks and I was given that info in my post-op instructions.

The best thing to do might be to call your cardiologist about what would be right for you at this point.
