Hi Meme: Good to hear from you, hoping you are hanging in there... how is your weight loss plan going...
I am still within my goal range although up a couple of pounds over the past week...I was eating things that I probably shouldn't have, lol. Although I am doing well with the gluten free part, I had GF junk food one day and it set up some cravings for me Right now (the past month or so), I am having a great deal of trouble with my temporomandibular joint - right side only?! It's hard to chew stuff like apples, even cut in pieces, and radishes, etc. Everything else seems to be feeling pretty good, I've been roller skating and hiking this past weekend. Strange how the pain areas 'move around' isn't it?

Hi Liana, yes ... it is strange how pain seems to move from place to place from day to day. That is how Fibro works, I guess. I also have Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis so it is hard for me to tell where one stops and the other begins. I, too, have been eating a few things I know I should not and I know I will pay for it but ... today is my 67th BD so 'I just HAD to'. ha My daughter made me Mexican tonight and had the whole family over to celebrate. My son bought me a BD cake and a 'hat' of all things. It was actually wonderful! I had a really good time and ate way too much spice and sugar. I know I will be hurting tomorrow but sometimes we do what we do, enjoy our lives and pay for it in pain. Not everyday mind you, but sometimes. Otherwise, what would our lives be but applesauce and sawdust on our couches and beds? And, face it, we'd still be in pain to some degree. Maybe not quite as bad, but still in pain. I don't know about you but I'm never completely pain free and I choose to go on and live my life! Besides, I have pain pills for days like this. As for my weight, I have been staying about the same for nearly a year now. I'm not really considered overweight for my height but I'd still like to lose about 15 pounds. I've had surgery on both knees (Osteoarthritis) and it would help that. Rheumatologist thinks I need more surgery. I'm saying, no right now. No skating or hiking for me. I can barely walk some days. But you keep doing what you're doing. Sounds like you are on the right track!

MY BIRTHDAY 2014 ... NOT 39 ... MY SON'S IDEA OF A JOKE BECAUSE I SAID I WAS NOT HAVING BIRTHDAYS AFTER AGE 39!

Hahaha, really sweet picture, MeMe. This is your 29th *39th birthday* so that's what you can call it... I also have Osteo from car accidents, work accident, and old sport overuse injuries, so I know what you are talking about, lol. Sometimes it's hard to tell what to blame the pains on. Not that that would even help anything anyhow.

I truly feel that attitude makes a HUGE difference in this disease/syndrome, whatever you want to call it. One can choose to be in pain and exhaustion and feel like a victim, or one can choose to live their life as best they can despite having pain & fatigue. I took a wonderful course from a university that was led by people who are experiencing chronic pain and it helped me focus on what I CAN do and not what I can't do, and how to take control of my feelings about my situation. You might find a look at the website interesting... it's a licenced program done in conjunction with Stanford University. http://www.selfmanagementbc.ca/chronicpainprogram

Hope things go according to your plans for the day - keep up your healthy eating... talk to you soon

Liana

Hi all:
I'm hoping the weather is fine for the next week or so and I'm feeling pretty good too, since DH & I are going for a little holiday, to Kananaskis (Canmore, Alberta) for a bit of hiking in the Rockies, and then on to a very fancy Inn that is in Calgary for a bit of pampering. I won the stay through a draw after donating to our local womens' shelter. I'm looking forward to this!!

Hi Meme and Liana, a fellow Canadian. I live in Alberta, and I sure hope you enjoyed your holiday into the Parks and on to Calgary. Nice to win such a nice trip.

Meme - you are looking wonderful as usual. It seems like it has been a coon's age since I have been here. Nobody was coming so I didn't either. I hope you are starting to feel better than you were. Just plain nasty to feel bad all of the time.

Liana - Too bad that you have these problems as well. Have you tried the chiropractor for the jaw problem? I had that problem for years, since my 20's. It would get like lockjaw and I couldn't open my mouth (some people were really happy lol). Anyway, 5 yrs ago, I mentioned it to my chiro and he did a quick treament (painless) and I had 2 more and have never been bothered with it again.

My daughter went to a TMJ specialist and ended up wearing a splint. She was 16. Never thought about the chiro then.

Having a bout of FM at the moment. The weather here is so up and down and it doesn't sit will with my buddies, FM and Arthr-itis. I am waiting for a Catheter Ablation for the Atria Fibrillation, which has gotten out of control. They tried to change meds, but nothing worked, so I was scheduled for the procedure on 03 June, but they cancelled it, as they has an emergency, so now it's the waiting game. Hoping it won't be too long. It gets in the way of my life!

Candice - are you still peeking in? I hope so. I hope you have been well.

Everybody take care.

Hi Canuk: Glad to meet someone new! We had a wonderful time in Kananaskis (although the trails we wanted to do were heavily damaged by last year's flood or closed due to bears) We ended up doing a couple we hadn't planned on - more popular trails and easier but we still had a great time. Kensington Riverside Inn was amazing and we felt so pampered there in Calgary. On our way home we stopped back in to Canmore to go to the Alpine Club of Canada Open House and had fun with the bear spray demo & practice, lol, avalanche transceiver practice, local caving info and free lunch . When we got home there was a phone call on our voicemail telling me I had won the Alpine Helicopter Three Sisters Sightseeing flight for 2 from the draw at ACC. LOL, I'm just so darn lucky!! Not sure if we will be back to Canmore for this later in the year, or if they can transfer to the Heli-Wine Tour from their Kelowna heliport.

Hope your week has gone well and you are feeling better soon. I go to the chiro for a 6 week tune up but haven't thought about the TMJ/chiro connection much - he suggested self-massage of the joint from inside the mouth but I have fingernails, tried this & it didn't work very well. I know I'm not explaining it very well, but I do trust him - I've used him for many years and he is seriously into the kinds of sports DH & I are in and around the same age too, so that helps. He also works with quite a few FM'ers too.

Liana

Hi,

I am new to this forum. Glad to see that there are some here that share the same health issues as me. I also have fibromyalgia and am on nortriptiline, gabapentin, toradol, arthrotec and Tylenol arthritis. I have the good and bad days and the fatigue and brain fog. I believe I have had this condition since 2001 but got diagnosed recently. I gave other conditions too such as stills disease and osteoarthritis. I have been in accidents and gone through a stressful divorce.... But I'm still alive .

I am starting the ideal protein diet tomorrow and although I am worried due to my health I am also very excited to start it! I just hope that I don't fall off the wagon.

Also how do I put the bar at the bottom of posts that show the weight loss progress? I'm new to this so I feel silly asking this question lol.

I'm glad I have found this forum

Hi Bull: and
You can get your little 'ticker' after a certain number of posts - I believe it is 20 but could be wrong... hang in there! I did my weight loss with IP as well and am in maintenance - there are a lot of active IP'ers in their own forum threads but I will definitely look for you on this Dieting With Obstacles 'sticky.' Congrats on starting to get healthier again by losing some excess weight. Your joints & muscles will thank you!

I found not long after being diagnosed that my fibro was a lot better when I went completely gluten free and IP has a lot of foods that fit into this category so if you are GF too, IP is very doable.

Thanks liana! I am super excited to be finally taking my health seriously and making it a top priority. First day today. So far it's been good. Mistake I made is that I slept in and had a late breakfast around 11:30 ... Then for lunch I had to go grocery shopping and had it at 7 pm... Now cooking some dinner. Tomorrow I shall be on track with having my meals on time.

Hi FM'ers: Just checking in, how's it going? Things are working well for me right now - staying at my maintenance weight and feeling pretty good except for the TMJ issues. Makes it hard to chew - maybe that's why maintenance seems so easy, lol. Less food, naturally!

Hi, hoping someone else is 'lurking' and just hasn't posted anything lately. I went for my first paddle of the year (I know it's kinda late in the year for the first...) in our canoe on a lovely little lake yesterday. A bit sore in the trapezius today, but totally worth it! We loved watching the turtles swim underneath the boat and listening to the loons call to their chicks who scrambled onto their backs when 'danger' approaches. A very hot & sunny day.
Hope the days are going well for all!

I am here too. My struggles with Fibromyalgia and chronic herpes has been helped tremendously by eliminating sugar and wheat carbs. I also get cramps in my jaw at night . But since losing weight the pain all over my body has subsided. I am off Lyrica! I am off all medications.
