Unhappy Hyperthyroidism.

Anyone have this and trying to lose weight/fat? I'm on this determined streak that I NEED to get rid of the fat on my stomach (it's 32 inches around my belly, even though I know that's not accurate because the fat from my butt creeps all the way up there too), but I'm actually fairly thin. So it's really hard to lose. Harder than I thought. Especially because I have hyperthyroidism, which contributes to my hypoglycemia.

I'm always hungry. My friends even tell me that if I didn't eat healthy things, I'd be fat because I eat so much. Every 3 hours I have a dinner plate or enough snacks to equal a dinner plate. I don't have to (I have to eat every 3 hours, but not that much), but I'm so hungry all of the time. And it's even worse during that time of the month.

I can't seem to gain weight from eating, but I can't lose that last bit of stomach fat either. Which is even weirder because I'm a pear. So I'm bottom heavy and I lost all of the fat down there.

Types of foods, workouts, etc...Help?

Also; it's hyper, not hypo. In case anyone thought it was a mistype.

Are you being treated for your hyperthyroidism?

No, I haven't been prescribed any medication for it. It's all controlled through diet and exercise. The only medication I am on is Clavaris.

It's kinda weird your doctor is not treating you for your hyperthyroid state. There are transient forms of hyperthroidism such as Hasimoto's or thryroid nodules( may or may not be benign) that may or may not require some degree of treatment. More "commonly" hyperthyroid is represented by an autoimmune disorder called Graves disease. Untreated hyperthyroid can cause excessive elevation in T4 or body's thyroxine home or thryroid storm(may be life threatening). Typically folks with Graves are put on antithyroid medication and heart rate controller like atenolol. Alternatively, radioactive iodine can be used or in rarer cases surgery on the thyroid gland. If this is the disorder you have you need find another doctor.

Af far as your weight concerns, typically with hyperthyroidism you are in a state of high metabolism as heart rate speeds up as does everything else. You may have reached a starvation point despite your current intake where the body is trying deliberately retain fat as much as possible.

I know this is old but holy crap, I looked up thyroid storm and it perfectly matches why I was in the ER tonight. Now I understand why the ER doc stressed the fact that I have to see my primary doc TOMORROW. She told me my thyroid levels were through the roof and that explained most of my symptoms. I never knew until tonight that I had hyperthyroidism.
