Hi p.a. How are you doing back on the wagon? Are you able to get back to LC? I agree with you on the fat. I know that some might jump all over me for saying this, but I believe that when they are eating tons of bacon and loading up on cheese and butter for extra fat, they have weight loss in mind, not necessarily health. Not everyone can do all the sat fat and remain healthy. I have been criticized so many times because of the veggies because they are carbs, but they are complex carbs, and I will be saying that til the grave. I realize that studies have been done that show that sat fat is not the enemy, but bacon has been shown to be carcinogenic due to the nitrates. Also, meat in large quantities is known to contribute to colon cancer, especially without fiber to move it along.

How are things going with the fire? I looked online but couldn't find any recent information. I hope they were able to get it out.

Trish, the more I hear about Golden Corral the less I think I would like it. I do not like fried foods. I prefer baked or grilled meats. It has nothing to do with what I feel is healthy or not, it's just a personal taste issue. It doesn't taste good to me! The only buffet we go to is at the casino, and they do have a variety of meats that are grilled or baked. Even so, lately it is either not as good as it used to be, or I'm getting tired of it. I have certain things I go to all the time and other sections I pass up altogether. I just feel so stuffed and heavy after I eat there. I don't know how I will change this because I tend to go places that DH likes. We have completely different tastes when it comes to food. Eating out is best for us because we can each choose what we like, while at home I tend to cook what he will eat. You are very lucky that Tony is interested in changing his way of eating along with you.

How are things going with your move? Have they started on your house yet? I doubt if you will have trouble selling your house, but clearing out years of accumulated "stuff' is a big project. It's amazing what you accumulate over the years. I don't think we will ever move from this house, but I am trying to get rid of some things I know we won't be using, just to get it out of the house. Some things I have to disguise to throw in the trash because if DH sees it he will dig it back out. LOL He hates to part with things he thinks "will be worth money some day." We were supposed to have a yard sale but now he doesn't want to do it, and honestly, neither do I. I am at the point that I just want to donate or discard everything. Even his kids will come over here and ask what he's going to do with everything. I wish you luck with all this. It will be so nice to start over in a new home, near your family.

Carol Sue I actually packed a small box because I wanted to feel like I was doing something. DH finally said last night that we will do it together. I am actually starting to look forward to everything.

DGS told me today that they got their 3rd person to help with rent so he is taking the application to the apartment during his lunch hour tomorrow. So hopefully they will be moving in the 1st of June. That way I can get his room cleaned up and ready so we can show the house.

I'm resolved to the fact that if our house sells as fast as I've heard that they say they sale here in town that we will probably have to store our furniture and move in with my sister and her hubby while they build our house although my other sister's hubby told me today that our builder might work out a deal with us so we could rent one of the builders rent houses while they build our house. My sister and her hubby used to rent from our builder. In fact, when they move back I think they will have him build the a house as well. It will work out however it does. It is raining so much back home that I don't think they have even been able to finish building the street yet and of course, you have to have to have a street to get to our lot. LOL

I did terrible yesterday with my diet, but back OP today. My sister who is going to move back home too, is on a lowfat/low sodium diet. It is the diet I was on the first time diagnosed with diabetes and got my bs under control with that diet and exercise. It isn't much different from the WW diet. What will be nice when we are all together again is that all of us diet and can help each other stay on plan. Her DH is a great cook and we can all work together to plan new healthy dishes for our family gatherings.

Trish, I think it would really help if you packed a box here and there. You probably have things that you don't use very often that you can get packed up. Moving is a lot of work but I think it's exciting, too. I moved a lot in my lifetime but we have been in this house for 35 years and will probably leave here in a body bag. LOL I would like to move somewhere all on one level but I don't think that's going to happen.

I did OK all day today until I had a baked potato at dinner. Ate half, but then went back and ate the other half. It was just too good!

DGS told me tonight that he isn't moving until August. I told him he was going to have to do something because as soon as we sell our house we will go ahead and move and store our furniture and move in with my sister until our house is built. His friend's mother almost died and he is taking his rent money and going to fly out to see her. I understand that, but I can't believe the apartment complex is going to hold their apartment for 2 months when they could be getting rent money. Oh well. Such is life.

I did good with my diet today. I made an egg omelet with Canadian bacon when my friend came over this morning. Then I had my RM of chipped beef and biscuits and a salad and cantaloupe with DH. I didn't get hungry until just a little bit ago and it was too late to eat much. So I stuffed celery sticks with Laughing Cow garlic swiss cheese and wrapped slices of cooked ham around it and I'm through eating for today. I wouldn't mind just having 1 CM meal and 1 CM snack besides the RM everyday. I still have to do 30 to 45 minutes on my bike.

DH said we have to get the bikes out of the living room when we start showing the house for sale. So I'm going to get my exercise dvds out and use them to get my exercises in each day.

I finally started cleaning out and throwing out stuff. I will have to work on my bedroom closet again tomorrow. Cleaned up the bedroom. I've become such a slob. It will be nice to get use to cleaning my house again.

Back to counting calories. As much as I hate counting them, I hate gaining worse. Finally feeling good enough to work on house and exercising again. Too hard to do low carb right now so just going to use MFP and count calories.

Hi, I haven't been here for a long while. Don't think I ever posted here much. I usually post in Golden Girls and I'm not sure whether I can be regular with more than one but will pop in when I can and see how it goes.
I'm a diabetic II and take three meds for it: Metformin 1000 mg, Amaryl 4 mg and recently added Januvia once a day (don't remember the doseage). The new drug is helping me get much better bs, however I am not perfect still. The Amaryl made me gain almost 15# and I was already overweight. I need to lose at least 30#, maybe more.

Patty - I need to get back to counting calories too. That is the only way I have lost significant weight in the past and I gradually regained it when I got away from it. But I kind of burn out on it (counting) and have to take breaks now and then.

here is another article on what Metformin does for us. As much as I didn't want to take it at one time, now the more I learn of its benefits and wish I could take it. After reading this, I may see if my doctor could give me a regular lower dose of it maybe 2 x a day instead of me taking a time released all at once. I'm not sure why it has turned on me and causing me problems. I'm wondering if doing lowfat instead of low carb might make it easier for me to take what I have. I just might try that since fat seems to cause the problems for me when I take it.

maryea Welcome back. I understand about the burn out counting calories. I do the same thing when counting calories, carbs or pts. I've resolved that MFP makes it easy to count the calories so I may as well get in the habit and just do it.

Hi Mary! Good to see your here!

Trish, The trouble I have with MFP and the other online tracker I use, Fitday, is that I don't always stop eating after I've entered my last meal. LOL Then I forget to go back and enter the extra food. I have no discipline at all.

Carol Sue I am sorry to say that I have the same problem some time. I have tried just tracking as I eat, but then sometimes I forget to do that too.

I am back OP today. I had my low carb breakfast of 1 sl Canadian Bacon, 2 eggs and a slice of cheese and my coffee. We will go to Cracker Barrel for our usual catfish and vegetables lunch. I could order the baked fish, but I don't always like it baked so not sure if I would like it or not. I may just have the fried unless I decide to choose the baked pork chop. I could probably do that and just have a low carb lunch instead of a RM.

I am going to go lowfat for a while and try taking the Metformin again at the end of a meal. I will cook something for me to eat for dinner and take it after dinner tonight. You know I never had problems with the Metformin for years until I started using coconut oil. After I used coconut oil, I couldn't even eat avocados or any milk with some fat. I haven't tried FF milk, I just switched to FF Lactaid milk and my problems stopped.

One thing about CAD if I continue to use it, the book says you can do CAD with fat or lowfat.

Also the last time I had bacon, I also had potty issues then too and thought of you Carol Sue and the fact that you have problems when you eat it. I will still eat it from time to time, but I will use the Canadian bacon most of the time since it causes me no problems and it is low fat low carb.

Happy Belated Birthday, p.a. Hope you had a nice day. It's allowed to go off plan when it's your birthday! LOL

Trish, I am not crazy about Canadian Bacon either, but it is healthier, made from a leaner cut. I am just staying away from bacon altogether. I really prefer sausage, but only eat it out, rarely at home. It makes me very suspicious to hear that your problem stopped after you switched to lactaid milk. Do you think that could have been the problem all along, rather than the Metformin or the fat? You took Metformin all those years without a problem.

Yesterday we went out and I had a salad that I really like. Problem is, I had garlic toast with it and my blood sugar went sky high again. I have to face the fact that I just cannot eat bread or any flour products. Why can't I get that through my head? I would be OK if they didn't ask "Rolls, garlic toast or Strawberry Bread?" LOL DH always chooses the Strawberry Bread. I have to learn the phrase, "No bread for me, please!" Once it's on the table, I'm eating it!

We also had a coupon for 2 free pieces of pie, but I can resist the sweets. DH ate mine.

Carol Sue I'm thinking the same thing about the milk. Although I also believe too much fat may do the same thing. I don't use milk even when I bread things at home when I occasionally fry meat. However, I wonder if the milk in salad dressings are the problem too.

Any way, I am cutting back on the fat as well. Just not using it when I don't have to. I use the Jimmy Dean lowfat turkey bacon. However, the main thing I do fry are fries once in a while and I never have any problem with that. When I talked to my babysister last week, she was having potty issues too since she went on lowfat diet the doctor put her on. I told her that daddy and I had to switch to Lactaid. I haven't talked to her since she switched. The strange thing is that I have no problem with cheese and yogurt.

Started the Metformin last night and so far so good. Plenty of anti-diarrhea meds if I do need it. I just like the benefits of the Metformin. Planned my meals on MFP and having 1295 calories today. I raised the carbs on MFP because I am eating more fruits and veggies WW style.

Thanks ladies, I had a great family day. Carol I was ok with cheating on my birthday but not the whole weekendddd lol. I knew I would go off the rails after my Drs appt,,,I do every time. But this time with the celebrating my weight jumped 10 pounds? Yikessss....that's bad. Down a couple already so I won't change my ticker yet.
It's storming here so I may have to just do some floor exercises today. I need to whittle my waist and work on my arms. That's my goal for the summer.

Trish all of my carbs come from fruit and veggies,,,,I've been reading more on lower carb eating BUT this time instead of keeping it to 20 carbs I'm trying under 60 . That depending on who you read is considered low carb as well. My body dosnt like eating higher fat. My bg does fine with it my cholestrol dosnt.

Carol I can't have bread on the table when I'm out either....

p.a. I'm the same way about the bread. I would not have eaten the corn muffin yesterday at Cracker Barrel if they had not brought it to the table. DH and I both told her no bread, but once she placed it on the table it called my name until I found myself eating it. Next time I will have to just make her take it back.

I bought a cereal pretzel mix yesterday and I shouldn't have. I ate it yesterday and today. I usually give it to DGS, but not going to work this time. I think I have to put it down the garbage disposal so I won't be tempted by it any more. I don't know why some of these things seem to jump in my basket lately. I've never even liked this stuff before. I've got to be more careful with that junk.

I took the Metformin at the end of lunch today. So far so good. Maybe it was the milk. I hope so.

Blood sugar before lunch was 90. FBS was 134.

I got 2 bags of clothes out of my closet to give to AmVet when they come around. Still need DH to bring box in so I can pack the blankets. I am going to go through my books tomorrow and start putting the ones I'm giving to them in bags. It is nice that they will pick up. I noticed on their envelop that they also will pick up small furniture. So when I know what I'm not taking and what DGS isn't going to take, I will call them to come get what they can have.

Now that I'm cleaning out and packing, I beginning to feel like I'm going to move.
