Happy Birthday Trish! Hope you enjoy your day! It's really an accomplishment to make it to 72 and still have your health!

Trish, exercise relieves stress, too. Strenuous exercise stresses the body while you're doing it, but relieves stress in-between. You know how you always feel much better after exercising, and for hours afterwards.

The only McDonald's foods I like is breakfast. Lately a couple sit-down restaurants in our area have been making breakfast sandwiches similar to the Egg McMufflin, and sometimes I will order that for dinner.

I think the best part of WW is that no food is off limits as long as you include it in your points. So many people cannot succeed unless they can eat their favorite foods now and then. The health of the plan is up to you. Having the fruits and veggies that are zero points makes people eat more of them and that's always good. I just never liked having to figure out the points for everything. It's good if you are prone to eat the same foods all the time and you can remember the points values. Like your doctor said, Trish, any diet will work as long as you stick to it and you have to do what fits your lifestyle in order for it to work long term. I don't think you can go wrong with WW.

Thanks Carol Sue for the birthday wishes.

I am doing so well with the WWPP and doing the lowfat. And it makes me feel so very good for a change. I sleep good and I wake up ready to get up. I'm back to sleeping 7 hrs and I'm finding that my FBS is lower when I get up earlier. I sure did like seeing that 114 FBS this morning.

I've never had a problem eating lowfat because I am allowed so many foods I like plus I find it extremely easy to take a regular recipe and making it into a lowfat recipe. I also find it easier to exercise and get my glucose under control. It just takes getting use to it again. I've tried and tried to do low carb way of eating because I like the benefits better, but I've had to face the fact that it just doesn't come together for me long term. I am having no problem following this way of eating. I think that the difference is that while I am able to eat foods I really like, I also am finding it so much easier to be more disciplined with it.

Have a nice weekend.

Trish, I'm glad your WOE is working for you and you are getting good sleep. I have not been getting good sleep. My hand/elbow/arm seem to hurt so much worse when I'm lying down and it's hard to find a comfortable position for sleep. The night before last took Tylenol and Benedryl, the ingredients in Tylenol PM. I slept until 9 AM, but still didn't feel refreshed. I always feel groggy when I take something for sleep so it doesn't help in the long run. I haven't been spending as much time online, thinking that typing might be making things worse. I don't know. I want to look into physical therapy before I take any other steps. It helped in the past with my shoulder. I hate taking pain meds. But I will see.

Hope all is well.

I was beginning to think this thread had died since I was the only one posting. I do know p.a. was taking a trip. Not sure when she'll be back

Carol Sue Sorry about your elbow and arm. Could be too much typing or even the way you lay when sleeping. Sometimes one of my arms will do that. Comes and goes but never lingers. Not sure what causes it. Hope it improves for you soon. You may need to give it a rest and perhaps use cold/hot pads on it.

I've been reading a lot on diabetic sites. I've also read a lot on low carb eating. I did read on Dietdoctor.com that a lot of the problems I had doing extremely low carb isn't unusual. Some people have to add more carbs. However, he did say the more carbs you have to add, the slower the weight loss, but he said doing IF along with the added carbs will help. So I'm beginning to work at doing that.

I'm reading The Magic Foods for Better Blood Sugar again. I've been easing into it this week because I'm out of a lot of the foods I need. DH has docs appointment today so we will go shopping and I will get fruits, veggies and protein foods as well as nuts for the good fats. I also want to get some lentils, barley and quinoa for my grains. I want to make some soup to keep on hand to eat instead of a salad sometimes. As much as I like salads, I do get tired of them and don't want to get burned out with them.

I think the book is an excellent guide to how to eat the correct carbs and which ones work best for lowering BS and eat less of the other (it doesn't say don't eat the other carbs). In fact, it shares little tricks/foods to eat with the simple carbs when you want/have to and keep the BS impact from being to high. I've always heard fiber, fiber, fiber and this book tells me how and what to use. I won't have to count pts, calories or carbs just learn to eat more of a Glycemic Load foods most of the time so I can learn how to make this a lifestyle NOT just another diet where I eat this way until I lose weight and get the BS back to normal. As I do this, I also want to learn how to do it along with IE/IF.

I guess the Januvia is working like it is supposed to work according to what I've read. FBS doesn't come down a like I want, but other readings throughout the day are fine. I heard of one doctor who said that the FBS doesn't matter because that is what wakes us up in the morning. He said the readings later in the day after meals is what is more important. I just hope the Januvia will finally bring the FBS back to normal eventually. The pharmacist told me that Januvia might help me lose weight because people forget to eat when taking it. I have decided that it has more to do with what they are eating and I believe the fiber foods, protein and good fats are probably the foods they are eating. I believe when your body gets the correct nutrition that it doesn't need a lot of food, vitamins etc because you'll be getting it in your food. JMHO

Busy day. Be back when I can.

p.a. Welcome back. Hope you had an enjoyable trip. Thanks for the birthday wishes. When do you have surgery? My son and a friend and my Daddy had cataract surgery and see much better.

DH took me out for my BD dinner yesterday at Outback and we won't go back there to eat. The last time we were there we got the best steak. This time they were terrible. Mine was hard to cut because it was a little burned on top and not a good piece of meat plus the veggies were tough. Salad was the only part of it that was any good. I really think it all depends on the cook, but still won't be going there again. We decided we will go back to Longhorn Steakhouse for steak dinners from now on.

However, I was really proud of both of us. While I did eat some of the bread, we weren't even tempted to order the baked potato. We substituted steamed veggies. I felt bad for DH because he ordered broccoli and it was so bad he could only eat a small portion of it. We both ordered a vineagrette dressing. Bless his heart DH only heard my conversation and thought Balsamic and Vineagrette were the only dressing choices and so he got what I did and absolutely hated it. I think I will switch to using it on my salads when I'm finished with what I have because I get tired of just basic EVOO and Vinegar.

His appt. went very well. Doc gave him a prescription for the new statin and we are waiting to get a call about whether we can afford it or not. DH numbers had improved. They now have us 2 months apart on our appt. I go in Sept for my 3 month and he goes back in Nov.

Carol Sue I hope your arm is better today.

p.a. Welcome back. I probably need cataract surgery, too, but have been putting off getting the eye exam. DH hates doctors and procedures and always tells me not to get things done and that I go to the doctor's too much. It's my decision. Lately I have been getting some pain in my bad eye. I already have a hole in the macula. What else can go wrong?

Trish, the book that I read, Fat Chance, said that the keys to weight loss are fiber and exercise. Exercise does not burn great amounts of calories, but it makes changes to your hormones that promote fat loss. It said never to skip more than 1 day of exercise in a row, even if you do only 15 min, do some.

My step-daughter got us a gift card for Outback. She got us that one other time and we weren't crazy about it. We prefer Texas Roadhouse. Outback is in a town we rarely go to, but we will have to do it to use the gift card. They had coupons in the paper too, so we will use them. too. I will have to look online to see what they have on the menu as I rarely eat steak. I am not big on beef.

Last night I slept for a couple hours without pain, but after I got up to go to the bathroom and went back to bed the pain started, even though I took Tylenol Arthritis. I think I will start taking IBprofen at night, even though the cardiologist tells me not to take it. He's not the one with the pain. I'm starting to get very cranky in my old age. That's my prerogative, isn't it? LOL

Trish, I read that fasting blood sugar is the last to come down, so if your blood sugars throughout the day are good, you shouldn't worry about fasting. My doctor doesn't worry about fasting as long as my A1c is good. If I recall, yours has been running very good, so I would worry so much about fasting. Fasting has to do with a lot more than what you ate I think.

I will have to get out my Magic Foods book and read it again. I know it emphasizes fiber but I don't remember what it said about other carbs. I think you can eat all carbs as long as you keep your portions small and eat some protein with it.

I was reading up about psoriasis and most of my psoriasis is guttae, not plaque. It said that it can be triggered by an infection, like strep throat and helped with antibiotics. This explains to me why it cleared up after I had my bowel surgery because they had me on so many antibiotics, even after I came home. About 6 months after I stopped the antibiotics it started to come back. This is encouraging me to go to a derm about it, because maybe they would not require the strong meds that are used for plaque psoriasis. I feel that weight loss would help too, but that seems to be the impossible dream for me.

Sorry never got here yesterday..
Trish do you go for 3 month drs appt regularly? My Dr wanted to see me in 3 months as well, so I'm wondering if this will be an ongoing thing.

Carol I've been told it's a simple procedure. My opthamologist told me that diabetics are prone to cataracts... :/. He found another one starting in my right eye as well. When they did the eye exam I couldn't read the eye chart no matter how large she made it,,,finally she held up 3 fingers got right in my face and said how many lol....I could see that. My left eye is pretty much blind. But, he told me it will be fine afterwards. He gave me a pamphlet on cataracts and its explained a few things that are happening. Hard to see in the dark,,,,perception is off,,,that sort of thing. I will get the date next appt.

Bg ran a little high yesterday,,,and didn't come down till late last nite. Like a dummy I ate some Melba toast and was still hungry so ate some more...bad me.
Carol I used an OTC cream for my psoriasis....it helped with the itching.
Your right it's your body,,,,I know all the time dh was sick the drs told him to get off the ibuprofen but he insisted it helped.

Down a smidge today weight wise...

p.a. I hate to be such a wimp with procedures, but with me, it seems that everything I have done, I end up with rare complications that only happen to 1 in 1000,000. Many people I know and relatives have had the procedure done for cararacts with only excellent results.

Occasionally I use a hydrocortisone cream on my legs if the itching if it gets too bad, but my psoriasis is all over my body from the shoulders down to my feet. If I put it on all the psoriasis I would use a whole tube. It is relieved for a while after I take my shower. I could probably take 2 showers a day, but then that dries out the skin and seems to make the itch worse. Some lotions are helpful and some don't do anything. One lotion made the itch worse and I had to take a shower to wash it off!

Your are supposed to get bloodwork done for your A1c every 3 months. Some doctors require an office visit for this and some will just give you the results over the phone. I get mine done about every 6 months. I tend to make my own rules. I think Trish gets her bloodwork done at the doctor's office. My dr gives me a script and I go to the quick draw to get it done. Then they send the results to him. He would like me to come in for a visit, but I only do that if I have something else to discuss. I usually just call and ask for the results. I need my money more than he does. LOL

I slept much better last night and didn't have as much pain. As far as I can see the only thing I did differently was drink a bottle of water in the evening. I don't usually drink in the evening because I don't want to be up all night going to the bathroom, but maybe I get dehydrated. I will try the water again tonight.

p,a. DH was very surprised that his mother had the cataract surgery done. But she said she wanted to be able to see, so she did it. Her sister had one done but then wouldn't go back for the other one. My friend's brother went in to have Lasiks surgery and something went wrong and his vision is very blurry now. They said they can't fix it now. Lasiks is not new...he was just the 1 in 100,000 that went wrong.

I drank a bottle of water in the evening again and I had no palpitations and only minor arm pain. So I am convinced it was caused by dehydration and will continue to increase my water intake. We went to the casino yesterday and I didn't get to bed until 1 AM. I only slept for a couple hours, but it wasn't due to palpitations or pain. I don't sleep well if I don't have a few hours in the evening to relax and unwind. DH is different. If he gets himself good and tired he sleeps like a rock.

Morning
Hydration is so important for our bodies Carol..glad it's working for you.
Today I'm off to the zoo with my dd and dgd,,lots of walking in. Woke up this morning with a good low number,,,I need to remember what I ate last night before bed to repeat it again. ( Greek yogurt)
Our health care system is so different here in Canada...some better some not.
We don't pay for most Dr appts,,,but it could take us months to get one :/
We really struggled with the system when dh was so sick,,,not the best timing either.
Better run,,
