p.a.Another woman who posts here is from Canada. I have heard good and bad about the health system. Do you have mini clinics, like MedExpress? We go there if we need an appointment ASAP but it's mostly for colds and flu, etc. Major things, they send you to the ER. It takes a few days to get a non-emergency appointment with my doctor. He also has some NPs who are available for same day appointments if necessary. That's nice. When DH got shingles, we were on the way to MedExpress and stopped at the doctor's office to see if we could get in by chance. Since he knows us well, he fit us in. It only took a couple minutes to verify that it was shingles and write an RX. It costs us $15 at the doctor's but $40 at Med Express. Now they are starting to have mini-clinics in drug stores, too. Our health care is very expensive, though. Only those who are very low income get a break.

Trish, I have read so many books I get them all mixed up, but I think it was Diabetes Solution that listed proper portions for carbs. They are so small, and I think that's what gets people in trouble. People think of a serving as so much more. It was like 1/3 cup of beans, 1/2 cup of pasta, 1/4 cup of rice. That's really small!

Hi
Yes we do have clinics herefor the same thing Carol...anything serious and we go to ER..it's the 'regular' appts that can take so long or 'Specialists' .

I had my eyes opened when I started re-learning what a serving really is..who can eat 1/2 cup of rice,,pasta etc....I know it's too tempting for me so I've been avoiding them.

Anyone doing anything special for the long weekend? I am going to a cottage with my dds....last minute idea and got a good deal on the rental. Just have to fight traffic to get there.

Sorry I've been MIA. Just reading a lot. I am not sure I can do more carbs because I end up eating too much. Will be ending this month with a gain.

p.a No plans so far for the up coming weekend. You have a good visit with your dd.

Carol Sue I do believe fiber and exercise is the key. The carbs and fiber probably should mostly come from veggies and maybe some legumes.

I've been reading on Coconutoil.com. Found some interesting info about using Coconut oil to lower blood sugar, bp, cholesterol and lose weight. They say that we have to get the bs down before the weight starts coming off which is what I've suspected. Now to do it.

Catch y'all tomorrow and hope I do a lot better in September than I did in August.
