p.a.Another woman who posts here is from Canada. I have heard good and bad about the health system. Do you have mini clinics, like MedExpress? We go there if we need an appointment ASAP but it's mostly for colds and flu, etc. Major things, they send you to the ER. It takes a few days to get a non-emergency appointment with my doctor. He also has some NPs who are available for same day appointments if necessary. That's nice. When DH got shingles, we were on the way to MedExpress and stopped at the doctor's office to see if we could get in by chance. Since he knows us well, he fit us in. It only took a couple minutes to verify that it was shingles and write an RX. It costs us $15 at the doctor's but $40 at Med Express. Now they are starting to have mini-clinics in drug stores, too. Our health care is very expensive, though. Only those who are very low income get a break.
Trish, I have read so many books I get them all mixed up, but I think it was Diabetes Solution that listed proper portions for carbs. They are so small, and I think that's what gets people in trouble. People think of a serving as so much more. It was like 1/3 cup of beans, 1/2 cup of pasta, 1/4 cup of rice. That's really small!
