Shannon, that towel is really cute! And to think that is with your old machine! I can just imagine what you will be able to do with the new machine. I hope she comes back in great shape, ready to roll.

The house you bought looks beautiful. I understand that you were looking forward to doing some upgrades to suit your needs, but it can be done gradually once everything else is ironed out.

If it's any consolation, my diet is way out there! Yesterday my fasting blood sugar was 202 and today it's 206. It's nowhere near as bad during the day. I cannot say I am eating a lot of sugar and grains. A little bit here and there, but no more than usual. Apparently, I am doing something wrong. I am blaming stress, which is being caused by my step-daughter's drama. No one else is bothered by it, but based on her history, I can see down the line, this is not going to end well.

I don't know if the higher blood sugar is clearing my psoriasis or what. I guess God doesn't want me to have everything going wrong at the same time. LOL

I used to have constant heartburn/reflux. I was diagnosed with a big hiatal hernia, but since I changed my diet I have no symptoms at all. I take an occasional antacid, but normally I have no symptoms.

Ruthie Good to hear from you. A1c is looking great. I'm sure you are one busy lady.

Shannon Been wondering if you are ok. Glad your machine is getting fixed. Towel is pretty. Sorry about the way things are going with MIL house. I hope things finally work out in y'alls favor. I agree with Carol Sue you will get the things done you want to your new home. Maybe not as quick as you want, but you will do it.

We went out to eat at a new place today. Was kind of carby so I took extra cinnamon. My fbs this morning was 128. I do hope to keep it down. We decided to check out a new "cheap" bargain store that just opened up here called Ollies just to walk around. They had loads of books. I found a book called Low-Carb Dieting for Dummies by a Katherine B. Chauncey PhD RF. I thought of you when I started reading this book Carol Sue. I've only read 2 chapters, but she talks about eating whole foods on this low-carb diet and she will teach how to eat things like fruit (which I like to include) and legumes (which we both like eating) while low carbing. In fact, she says she does the counting for us so we don't have to count. Because most fruits and veggies have fiber, she will show which ones we can eat as freebies. She uses 3 categories she lists foods under. Green foods are free and we can eat as much as we want which includes certain fruits and veggies and protein. Yellow foods are limited foods and their carbs are counted. Red light foods means "stop". Because nothing needs to be forbidden, they can be traded off as part of the Yellow list if I understand it correctly so that a treat is allowed once in a while. Might be another book you would want to check to see if the library has it.

I'm back OP at dinner. Having flounder fillet that I added to my greens salad.

It has been a long day. Got DGS car this morning so I plan to sleep in a bit tomorrow. I had phone calls last night from my youngest sister and her next to the oldest son cut his foot and has to have surgery to fix a cut tendon. Then when I called my other sister to tell her and ask them to pray, I found out that my Daddy had been at ER all day because my step-mom fell out of bed night before last and broke her arm. Nursing let it go too long because they were waiting for a call from doctor. Daddy said that my step-brother really laid into them. At midnight last night DH brought me the phone with a message my DS that his little step-granddaughter was in a mess with her mother and wanted me to pray about it. Found out this morning that her mother and the guy she lives with have lost their jobs and he refuses to work. DH exwife was told that her daughter gives the 10 yr old girl a diet coke for breakfast and a diet coke for lunch. Not sure she even gets a good meal for dinner and the child has medical problems. DH and ex were trying to get custody of the child and lost the battle because of a technicality. Sure hope they get that blessed child out of that environment. If the ex finds out what she heard is true, she will be reporting it to CPS. So much going on these days.

Catch y'all tomorrow.

I am in really bad shape right now. I don't know what happened to me. I am back to square one. Today, DH wanted to try making apple pie again because we still had a lot of apples from step-son's tree. I found out online that we should have baked the pies on the very bottom oven rack to make sure the bottom crust got done, and to cook it longer to soften the apples. We did that and the pies looked good. After it cooled, DH tried it and said it was much better than the one a few days ago. Instead of trying a bite, I had a whole piece. I just tested my blood sugar and it was 250. I know better than to eat that. In fact, I had been to the point where sweets didn't even interest me. Believe me, the pie was delicious! The apples were tender, and the amount of sugar was perfect. Apple pie isn't DHs favorite and I won't be making any more because the apples are gone. But I have to get back to not eating sweets. The way I did it before was by eating all the large portions of vegetables. Right now I feel like cooking some brussels sprouts, but I think I will just take my meds and go to bed. LOL Tomorrow is going to be a brand new start.

Trish, we have 2 Ollies in our area. Not real close, but one is about 15 miles away and the other is about 20 miles in the opposite direction. We haven't been there for a long time. We usually go when I see something in their ad that I want. I remember that they have a lot of books. They are similar to Big Lots. Do you have Big Lots in your area? Ollies is bigger than Big Lots. If we go by that way, maybe I'll stop in to see if they have that book.

I have been reading the new Wheat Belly book that I got from the library. It's good, but so far nothing that I didn't already know.

I hear what you're saying about the family stress times. DH has been picking up my step daughter every morning and driving her to work. He's getting tired of it. She finally got another car today. We don't know how she's ever going to pay for it, but at least DH won't have to get up so early to drive her, especially with winter coming. She had been driving her illegal car that wouldn't pass inspection. She finally got caught and got a big fine. The car was so beyond repairing, so she had to get something. Hopefully the repo man doesn't pay her a visit. She's not too reliable when it comes to making payments.

I couldn't live the way these people live. It would make me a nervous wreck. They all need our prayers.

Last night when I was complaining about my blood sugar, DH said he heard that if I would lose 40-50 lbs my blood sugar would go back to normal. Well, DUH! As if I didn't know that! LOL I can't even lose 5 lbs, let alone 40-50. That would be so nice. I told him "YOU try losing 40-50 lbs." He said he would, but when he told me what he wanted me to do for him afterwards I told him never mind. LOL TMI

We are going to the casino today. I eat good there. I eat a lot, but no carbs other than veggies, and it doesn't usually raise my blood sugar. Roast chicken, grilled salmon and shrimp. Spinach salad. All good stuff.

Trish, when I went to bed last night, I was lying there, and I thought of what you said.

Carol Sue You nut!!! I didn't think of you because it was for Dummies. LOL I thought of you because you like to eat legumes and it would be nice for you to be able to learn how to include them in your food plan so that they work for you and you would not have to miss them or feel you were off plan when you eat them. There are just so many good benefits when eating legumes. I want to include them in my plan as well.

It has helped me understand why I lost weight so easily without counting anything when I first married DH and moved to FL because this is basically the way I ate. I really bought the book because the fact it is one of those "For Dummies" books, they usually explain things so simply that I might better understand whatever it is that I must be missing in the other books. I could skip some of the book, but I am reading all of it trying to learn what I may have missed in the doctor's books.

I also know from reading the book and what you shared this morning about how you eat when you go to the casino why your bs does so well. You say you eat a lot of veggies and roast chicken, grilled salmon etc while there... what you call Good Stuff is called Green Light Foods in this book and they are freebies.

Actually the diet in this book is teaching people how to eat Whole/Low glycemic foods which she says not only helps you lose weight, but it also keeps the blood sugar level without high spikes throughout the day when done correctly. I really believe I could eat this way and might even help DH do it too.

She actually explained how soluble/insoluble fiber needs to be more balanced and says if you eat it the way she teaches that we would be able to lower bad cholesterol and triglycerides and raise the good cholesterol.

My FBS was 124 this morning. I'm only taking 1 500 mg Metformin right now.

I did have an apple this morning and I had 2 slices of the Sarah Lee MG bread which is 12 grams carb. If I follow this woe, I can have up to 5 servings of carbs a day with a 15 gram carb serving each. I don't have to eat that much, but an if I want. I intend to make that my possible max where as I think she said some people thinks it should be the minimum. I'll have to read that again.

It is cold here so I've got a pot of chili on with beans and may have a bowl of salad with that. I think the beans count as a carb, but not really sure about that either. I haven't gotten that far in the book.

We are going to get this right dear friend. Have fun at the casino.

Does anyone here pass out candy for Halloween? This year is the first year we went out instead of staying home and passing out candy. We bought it, but it was so cold and rainy that we didn't think we would get any kids. Usually we only get about 10 kids, and the neighbor said he only got 5 kids last year. So we weren't going to stay home for that. Mostly the kids don't come to our house because there are a lot of steps to walk up, whereas the houses on the other side of the street you walk up to the door right at yard level. Sometimes when the weather is nicer I sit down at the bottom of the steps and pass out the candy so they don't have to walk up the steps. It's dangerous when wearing a mask and costume. It was only 40 degrees, I was not sitting outside in that!! So now there's a lot of candy here. I hope I can resist it!

Trish, I knew that you didn't mean that, but I told DH how you said it and even he was laughing! LOL

I looked on the library website and they don't have that book in my library but they can get it from a nearby library, but I won't get it for a couple days. When we went to the casino we passed the one Ollies so we stopped and looked to see if they had it but they didn't. They had EVERY "for Dummies" book known to man, but not that one. I had to curb myself while there because they have so many cookbooks! But I resisted and didn't buy any.

I think we eat the same Sara Lee bread. Is it 45 cals per slice? I like that bread so much. I keep it in the freezer and only have toast once a week or so for a treat.

When I was in the hospital, they gave me 5 servings of carb per MEAL. The diet was called "Controlled Carb." Believe it or not, I kept my blood sugar down well with that and I lost weight, but that was when I was first diagnosed and my BS wasn't as bad. The whole idea was to eat the same number of carbs at each meal and keep your blood sugar steady. Now I read that the carbs should be eaten at breakfast or lunch and none at dinner. I really love a low carb diet as long as there are enough good things to choose from. I don't miss the carby things. At the casino DH got mashed potatoes and gravy, so I took a forkful of his just for a taste. I asked him why he doesn't eat gravy when I make it and he said their gravy has a more spicy flavor. LOL He never ate his mother's gravy either.

The beans do have a lot of carb, but are healthy because of the fiber. Richard Simmons diet counted them as protein, I think, because they do have protein, and a lot of vegans eat them for their protein because they don't eat meat. I'm out of the habit of eating beans. I don't like the lentils I have.

We came home from the casino with $100 more than we went with, so that was good. We had an evening of fun and a good meal and it didn't cost us anything but our gas to get there and back.

Here's an interesting article. The only thing I disagree with is eating the high fiber whole grains.

Carol Sue Congratulations on the $100. My 2nd hubby mother saved money that she took to the casino in OK. She had a rule that when she lost all the money in her little bucket, she quit. Many times she came home with more than she went with.

I knew you were joking. LOL But it did sound like that didn't it. I guess we had a good laugh from that one. I think I got the only low carb diet book for dummies that they had. I agree they must have a "for dummies" book for everything. In fact, I thought about going back and seeing if there were other subjects that I might want to read.

Yes, our bread is the same. I will continue to use it. I tell you the cinnamon pills work when you take enough. I take 2000 mg with each meal. And I am sorry to say that I even at some (not loads) of candy last night and my fbs this morning was 128. I think that is good. The carbs I had yesterday besides the candy was 2 slices of the SL bread and I ate 5 crackers with my chili and at dinner time, I decided to eat some butter beans (my faves) with a little bit of the chili in it. I made the chili with V-8 juice and DH didn't like it because he likes it made with tomato juice which I don't think I had. So guess who will be eating that for the next few days. But then this is the weather for it.

Speaking of weather. We live at a dead end street with oldies so we don't get trick or treaters, although I thought DH niece was going to bring her little daughter and her niece to our house so I ran out and bought some candy. I bought things we don't really care for so I'll probably send it with DGS to the school to get it out of the house. I think she didn't bring the girls because it turned cold and rained pretty heavy. Not a night for going trick or treating.

Beauty shop this morning and it is cold, windy and raining. I was going to go to the store for some veggies, but I think I'm coming right back home. It is snowing in Atlanta and they say we usually get it to and I don't want to be out in this.
