BERTIE Education course for type 1's
 

Hi,

I wondered if anyone had been on a BERTIE course and if so, what was it like? I haven't actually heard of this particular course before, just DAPHNE and DESMOND. I've been on a waiting list for a good while now and will be attending one in the coming months.

Just wondered what your thoughts were on it and maybe what to expect?
I have already been on a DAPHNE course, but only managed 3 days due to getting a kidney infection! What are the odds!
I didn't particularly like the DAPHNE course, I think maybe due to being so newly diagnosed at that point and being with a group who had all had decades of experience living with the condition! I also didn't like the approach they took, that was you can eat whatever you like. I assumed it would be focused on a more healthy eating approach, but it wasn't.

Anyway, not to get sidetracked, I have only been diagnosed for 2 years, so still have lots to learn and not completely comfortable discussing my diabetes with others, apart from family and close friends.

I don't know any other type 1's, so could be a rather odd experience for me. Hopefully, a positive one though. I just hope they try not to use scare tactics looking at potential complications, as it isn't good for my positive outlook, at the grand ol' age of 24!

Could you give more info on these courses? I Googled and could not find much.
