Cinnamon?

Is anyone taking cinnamon to help control blood sugars? How's it going for you?

I am hypothyroid/ diabetes diagnosed, found out about a month ago. So far I was put on synthroid for my thyroid and for now am trying diet and exercise to control BS.

I have read and was told by several people that they had benefited from cinnamon and was wondering what experiences others have had?

Never tried it but there sure is lots of info out there if you Google.

I use the cinnamon, about a teaspon and a half each day in my oatmeal. My oatmeal looks like it's chocolate. It really does help stablize the bs (as tested) and doing so seems to help me with the hunger. Additionally, I find emotional satisfaction in my food by keeping the flavors stronger. More flavor seems to equal less hunger (at least emotionally, LOL ). Six months into this eating plan, I no longer have to deal with diabetes. Needless to say, my eating plan is not a diet, but a renewed lifestyle.

I eat cinnamon every day too, but on an apple that I eat with peanut butter. I eat about 3/4s teaspoon every day. I don't know if it has an effect or not (still waiting to see) but it tastes yummy and supposedly helps, so why not!

Sea - what are you doing to change your lifestyle to not deal with diabetes. That's my plan too!

Mostly, its simply that I've dropped 57 lbs. My meal plan is simply my meal plan. I don't eat much in the way of sweets. I exercise at least 3 times a week. My blood levels are good enough that my current dr. doesn't realize I ever had a problem.

Thanks...I do love cinnamon so figure it can't hurt, right?

since cinnamon has insulin like properties, it is considered beneficial. I had a friend who was type I, he ran out of insurance, and complained he just could not afford his insulin anymore, he asked me for suggestions. I advised him about the research about cinnamon and the research on chromium and vinegar.

I gave him what i had, and told him to please be very careful and monitor his blood sugars closely. He did. He told me at the end of 2 weeks, he was using HALF the amount of inuslin he normally had to use.

based on that, i think there are some benefits. I am also conisdering using goat's rue because this is the plant the drug metformin (glucophage) is isolated from. I want to use the tea to assist with breast feeding anyways.
