metformin and blurry vision...

hi everyone,

just recently i have started taking metformin and now my vision is blurry... I cant focus close up an when looking at say the telly - my vision goes blurry like im in a daze, i am always trying to refocus...

I went to see my doctor who has referred me to a eye specialist but there is a waiting list aaargh!

Anyone got a clue as to why this is happening? Would like to hear what you think :)

Is your FGL running too low? Blurred vision can be one of the side effects of Met.

Interesting! I have been on Metformin about a year now and have noticed my vision becoming more blurry too. Both the distance and up-close vision is a little blurrier but esp the upclose. Since it was mainly the up close vision, I agreed with my eye doctor that my vision is just getting worse as I age, but it has happened so suddenly now I am wondering if it could be the Metformin. Never thought about that before. The eye doctor upgraded my prescription but said he cannot make it any stronger, and I will just have to take my glasses off to read if it doesn't work. It has helped some but not enough. I'm going to check on this possible Metformin link. Thanks!

update

yay! My vision is back to normal - not blurry, now that my blood sugars are stable... lower, somewhat near normal range! Very happy!

the year I turned 40 I went in and had a good physical, did everything, including a 75 g glucose testing regime, no diabetes at that time. I am glad I did, my vision got quite a bit worse around age 41, quite dramatic to me, and I had vision testing. Was just age related. My changes are more gradual now, but I think it is common, since type 2 often appears in midlife for women, the same time as eye changes may occur.
Of course, its important to have it all checked out.
