Smile Hello / my diabetes /my weight loss/ Need insurance advise

I joined 3fc a few days ago and I wanted to introduce myself to everyone on this forum. I was diagnoised with diabetes in July 2007. I found out that I was diabetic, high blood pressure and high cholestoral when I was getting blood work done for an upcoming surgery. Talk of a triple whamey. I changed my eating habits from July till Sept. After my surgery on Aug 31, I Fell off the wagon and started eating bad again. End of Sept I had appointment with my doc and my averages were in ths 200's. He told me that he would put me on Byetta. Pocking my fingers was one thing but sticking needles in my tommy was something that I was not yet prepared to do. So for Oct, Nov and Dec, I mostly watched what I ate and I lost about 10-12 lbs. My blood sugar was much better but not where I wanted it to be. So Jan 14th I decided to get really serios and I have been dieting low-carb without cheating once. I have lost 10 more lbs and my blood sugar is between 103 to 114 after meals and 140-145 in the morning. I don't exercise much yet but thats my next goal to at least walk 30 to 60 minutes a day. So dear friends do I have my sugar under control or what are the numbers that I should aim for? Does my blood sugar need to be under 100? I Know my losing more weight, eating right and exercising I will get there. I lost my insurance and so I can't go to see my doc till I get insurance. (Several plans told me that it would be very expensive or I might not be insurable because of my diabetes--Does anyone know of a comany that will insure me?

Afraid I can't help with the question about insurance coverage -- my experience is only with insurers in Canada -- but you are definitely on the right track as far as controlling your blood glucose levels is concerned.

Makes sure you spread your carbohydrate intake as evenly as possible throughout the day; start adding exercise into your routines (even a little bit helps) and, most importantly, continue with the weight loss.

Hope you will com over and join us on the regular chat thread "Dieting with Diabetes". It can really help to be able to discuss things with others who really know what you are going through. Hope to see you soon.
