chocolate trifle

If you want to make a smaller amount of this just use 1 box of pudding.

whole wheat chocolate cake recipe(follows)
2 boxes of sf chocolate pudding mixed with milk
ff cool whip

I used a whole wheat chocolate cake broken up for the first layer
sf chocolate pudding for the second layer
ff cool whip for the third layer
repeat the layers and top off with dark chocolate chips

chocolate cake brownies

2/3 c splenda
2/3 c whole wheat flour
1/3 c cocoa
1 t baking powder
1t salt
1/3 c promise butter
2 eggs
1 t vanilla
1/3 c unsweetened applesauce
chocolate chips to sprinkle on top

mix together splenda, flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt: set aside
beat together butter, eggs and vanilla for 1 minute
add applesauce and beat until blended
add flour mixture until blended
spread evenly in a lightly greased 8 inch square cake pan
sprinkle chocolate chips on top
bake at 350* for about 15 minutes or until tester inserted in center is clean
cool on rack
store in a covered container in fridge

I used a round cake pan or you can use an 8x8 pan

Oh boy, I can't wait to try it!!! YUM!!!

umm, how much baking powder in the brownies? You forgot to say.... I'm making this right now, so I'll have to improvise.

Tried 1/2 tsp baking powder; they came out okay. The brownies taste pretty strange alone, but they are good mixed with the other ingredients. Next time I will add some espresso powder. I also cut back the Splenda as we dislike the taste - may have cut back too much.

For the chips, I used Ghiradelli's Bittersweet chocolate chips as they have less sugar than Hershey's Special Dark. They are large, flattish chips, kind of between chips and mini nonpareils, and they are very, very good.

I made little parfaits instead of a whole trifle (there were only 3 of us, including my toddler) for DH's birthday, instead of a cake. I used sundae glasses, and crumbled brownie pieces into the bottom (a little more than 1/3 brownie each), poured sf ff chocolate fudge pudding over and used a spoon to help it flow down between the brownie pieces, let it set in the fridge for a bit, then spooned CW Lite over the top and sprinkled the chips over the top. Then I put back into the fridge until time for dessert. They were really good; I'll be making this for my family's Sept birthday get-together later this month. Four out of six adults in my family are on the SBD, so this will be great. One of the other 2 is a chocoholic, so this should please her, and the 6th will like it as well, I think.

Thanks, mzladyt!

Oh, and can you let me know if I guessed wrong on the brownies? Then I can make them correctly in future.

Sorry about leaving out the amount. It's 1 t of baking powder. I'm glad you liked it. The first time I made it I used fructose as the sweetner but I am trying to get away from it because of all the bad stuff I have read about it. I'm not too crazy about the splenda either but to me it's better than nothing.
I really like this as a dessert. I'm sure that substitutions can be made with other pudding flavors too.

I have tried this twice. First time didnt even notice the left out baking powder. NOT good. Second time, guessed at 1t BP. and used 1/2 ww flour, 1/2 oat flour. better, but burned it this time! Third time is a charm i guess. I am bound and determined to get this right!

Maybe I did something wrong?

This was not good to us at all. It tasted very "diety". JMO though. Maybe I did something wrong?

The brownie part alone is not very good. I found this recipe on another site and tried it for my chocolate treat. I admit the brownie does need something to make it better tasting. Sorry for anyone that tried it and didn't like it.
